Brain fog is currently a mystery to medical science and research. Its true cause is not known and in many cases it is often misdiagnosed, leaving patients without the information they need to heal. Even alternative health communities tend to blame brain fog on the wrong cause. They often believe it’s caused by yeast or fungus in the gut, but this isn’t true. A friend of mine told me about the electrician at his office who is suffering from terrible intestinal issues, but has no brain fog. On the other hand, there are people who eat incredibly clean diets and don’t have noticeable digestive issues, and yet they do suffer from terrible brain fog. I’ve known countless people and heard many stories of people who have experienced the very same thing over the years. The gut is not what causes brain fog. It’s also not caused by the thyroid, which is another common belief in medical communities. Nor is it a condition to be taken lightly.
Sadly, this condition can be so extreme that it causes people to lose their jobs, drop out of school, or spend days in bed when they need to be looking after their family or other responsibilities. Brain fog is not just the result of anxiety or a late night out. Fatigue, anxiety, and depression can accompany brain fog, but they are not the cause. It is so much more than that and it is time to uncover what is really going on. To properly understand the causes of brain fog and how you can your loved ones can heal from it, it’s important to read Liver Rescue.
The root causes of brain fog can be traced to both the liver and the brain. There are many different “Liver Troublemakers” that sit in our livers. This is the name I have given to hundreds of toxins, chemicals, pollutants, pathogens, foods and more that I list in Liver Rescue, including where they come from, why they are problematic, and how to cleanse them from your body. Some of these troublemakers include viruses like Epstein-Barr, excess adrenaline from being in the almost constant fight or flight mode most of us experience every day with our busy lifestyles, and toxic heavy metals such as copper, mercury, aluminum, and more.
When viruses like Epstein-Barr are present in the liver they need to sustain themselves to survive. They do this by eating substances that they like. Medical science and research have yet to discover this truth that all viruses feed. They cannot exist on their own, and what they enjoy most are certain foods we eat and toxins we often have inside us, such as toxic heavy metals, pesticides, petrochemicals, and fungicides, to name just a few. And, just like us, when a virus feeds, it also has to eliminate. When viruses eat toxins and problematic foods, they will then excrete even more toxins into your body. I call these toxins excreted by viruses dermatoxins and neurotoxins.Again, medical science and research also aren’t aware of either of these yet. If you’ve heard of the word dermatoxin before, the world understand it as an external chemical or irritant to the skin. But these dermatoxins that com from viruses are internal dermatoxins. The neurotoxins leave the liver after viruses excrete them and travel the hepatic portal vein to the heart and up to the brain. Their next stop is neurons in the brain, where they can cloud up, interfere with, and short-circuit neurotransmitters. In order for our brain to function properly, and for thinking to happen naturally, we need clean neurotransmitter chemicals that can pick up neuroelectrical impulses sent out through the brain. But when the neurotoxins that came from viruses in the liver reach the brain, they can sit on neurons and burn out neurotransmitter chemicals, making the neurotransmitters dirty. And when an electrical impulse travels to a dirty neurotransmitter, it dampens it and shorts it out. Neurotransmitter chemicals dirtied by neurotoxins are a recipe for brain fog. This will take at least 50 years to uncover by medical science and research. These shorted-out neurotransmitter chemicals can also trigger anxiety, depression, and other symptoms and conditions.
Additionally, there’s another cause of brain fog. When toxic heavy metals like mercury and aluminum are already present in the brain, which is the case for almost everyone to some degree, they can oxidize and create a metallic run-off that saturates your brain tissue. Again, your electrical impulses are short circuited by dirty neurotransmitters. The important thing, though, is not to worry about which type of brain fog you might be suffering from, because the truth is, most people are suffering from both types. The best thing you can do is focus on the healing foods and supplements for brain fog that I share in Liver Rescue and excluding the foods and toxins I discuss that contribute to this issue.

Detoxing Your Liver
Now that you have some of the answers for what’s really behind brain fog, you can move forward with healing. By eating a diet that consists of a abundance of fresh fruits, leafy greens and vegetables, along with avoiding the foods I discuss in Liver Rescue, you can not begin detoxifying your liver , but also offer your adrenals and brain the support they need.
There are problematic foods—like eggs and dairy products—that feed viruses and other pathogens in the liver. That includes even grass-fed milk, cheese, and butter. Gluten is another offender. Gluten is a favored food of the Epstein-Barr virus and other viruses and bacteria. And remember that the more a virus eats, the more toxins it will eliminate, which will only worsen brain fog and other symptoms.
Leafy greens, fruits, and vegetables, on the other hand, will support the liver in ridding viruses and toxic heavy metals from the body. Now that you understand what is really going on in your liver and in your brain, you can take the steps to heal. Keep in mind that the higher the viral load in the liver, and the more heavy metals in the brain, the worse brain fog can be. Eating the healing foods and following the principles I share in Liver Rescue will help rid these toxins from your body and rebuild neurotransmitters in your brain so you can get your health and your mental clarity back.
Gut, weight and gallbladder issues are extremely common today and often someone can be suffering from problems in all three of these areas. There’s a reason for this: these health issues are all rooted in the liver. Surprised? You may have heard many different theories about the cause of gut, gallbladder and weight problems, but it’s unlikely you’ve ever heard the liver implicated. That’s because this information hasn’t yet been discovered by medical science and research. Let’s take a closer look at what is happening in the liver to create these issues.
When the liver is weakened, overburdened and sluggish, countless symptoms and conditions can arise, including gut, weight and gallbladder issues. What happens is that over time the liver literally heats up more and more because it’s overwhelmed by pathogens, toxins, adrenaline, and too much fat in the diet. There are hundreds of what I call “Liver Troublemakers” that can burden the liver. When the liver gets overheated, it can’t produce bile as well, so that means the bile can’t break down the fats you’re eating, whether they are healthy fats or unhealthy fats and from plant sources or animal sources. Since the bile isn’t doing its job, your hydrochloric acid (HLC) is required to do more work than it’s meant to be doing. (Science and research doesn’t know this yet, but HCL is actually made up from a combination of seven acids, not just one). HCL is how we break down protein, and it can also break down a little fat if needed. But it’s our bile that’s meant to be doing that job.
A Breach in the Gut’s Barrier
Since the bile is weakened, your gastric glands work hard to produce more HCL to take care of what the bile can’t do. But that overproduction means ultimately the HCL starts to burn out and weaken. And that’s bad news because your HCL is a first line of defense for your digestive tract.
When HCL isn’t as strong, pathogens like bacteria or viruses slip through it and can start to proliferate and grow in colonies in your gut. Also, your HCL can’t break down dietary fats as well (that’s not even supposed to be its primary job anyway), so these unprocessed fats get by and start to cling to parts of the intestinal tract and colon.
And guess what loves that fat? Everything that’s harmful to your body: bad microorganisms, fungus and bacteria, c-diff, streptococcus, staph, E. coli and so on. These pathogens grow and move into different parts of the body over time, and that leads to just about every condition under the sun. It also leads to autoimmune disease. These pathogens then flourish and people end up with any number of health problems and symptoms and possibly a diagnosis, for example of having small intestinal bacteria overgrowth (SIBO), which is actually from the streptococcus bacteria. Science and research doesn’t yet know that it’s streptococcus specifically that causes SIBO, and that it elevates in the gut, pours into the lymphatic system and then ends up nesting under the skin, causing acne. Streptococcus is the unknown cause of all kinds of other problems too, including urinary tract infections, candida overgrowth, sore throats, sinus pain and congestion, styes, and much more. Another example is when people are diagnosed with colitis—that’s actually an undiscovered strain of non-rashing shingles in the intestinal tract lining (there are over 30 varieties of shingles but medical science have only discovered one). It causes inflammation there in the colon. Science and research really doesn’t know a lot about the gut yet. We have surgeons who can cut things open and cut things out, but the inside of the intestinal tract is just not well understood. I share a lot of undiscovered information about the gut in Liver Rescue. I want to be sure you get the right direction and the answers you need to heal. There is so much that isn’t known by medical and health communities that it’s critical you empower yourself to become an expert on what’s really happening inside your body.
Stress is another hurdle for your health, your liver and your gut. Your adrenals pump out adrenaline when you’re under too much stress and dealing with the ups and downs of life. Waiting more than two to three hours to eat also triggers adrenaline to be released (you can read more about why this happens in Liver Rescue.) Your liver has to soak up all that adrenaline—another burden for this already overworked organ. The adrenaline also gets into the stomach, weakening the gastric glands that produce the HCL.
If you’re walking around with weak or low levels of HCL, you’re going to run into trouble with pathogens. Say you’re eating at a restaurant and the chef has active Epstein-Barr virus (as many people do). A drip of the chef’s sweat might fall onto your dish, and when you eat it, you also get that Epstein-Barr virus. If your liver is weak, your bile is weak, and then your HCL is weak, you won’t be able to fight off the virus. The virus will settle into your gut, where it proceeds to cause health problems. Or you open a door at your doctor’s office and pick up staph. It’s so easy to come across these things in everyday life, which makes it even more important to know how to protect and safeguard yourself so you are equipped to face the pathogens and stress in today’s world.
The bottom line is you want your HCL to be strong, you want your bile to be strong, you want your liver to be strong. That will stop disease from occurring in your gut, whether it’s SIBO, celiac, Crohn’s, colitis and everything else that happens in the intestinal tract—including colon cancer. It’s critical that you take care of your liver so you build up good bile and good HCL, and then everything gets stronger and healthier.
The Gallbladder Takes a Hit
The gallbladder is closely related to all of this, and to the liver’s health in particular. First, I do need to clear the record about liver stones. Learn the full truth about liver stones and other liver myths in Liver Rescue. The liver doesn’t produce stones at all (though the gallbladder does produce gallstones). For one, the liver is too hot to forge a stone. In addition, the bile ducts that come out of the liver are really narrow. A stone could never pass through those ducts—it would always get caught. Globally there would be millions of people needing surgery on their livers all the time. All this talk about liver flushes is simply not true, that’s just not how it works.
What happens is the liver is naturally a hotter organ in the body. But as it becomes increasingly toxic it gets hotter—it’s like pouring gasoline on a fire. The bilirubin and cholesterol in the liver mix with toxins like heavy metals; pesticides; everyday household chemicals, like plug-in air fresheners and conventional cleaning products; pharmaceuticals you use now, used years ago or are consuming through drinking water; smoke from cigarettes or bonfires or gas grills; fungicides or flame retardants on our clothing; alcohol; recreational drugs and much, much more.
We are actually harboring toxins and poisons that go all the way back to the Industrial Revolution—around the 1800s. The poisons from chemicals compounds and toxic heavy metals that people started using in the industrial revolution have been passed down from generation to generation. Some toxic heavy metals, such as mercury, are passed down for as many as 2,000 years.
We are born with these toxins inside of us. And then we collect more. We have all kinds of toxic ingredients that are in pharmaceuticals inside of our bodies. We have all consumed processed foods in our lifetime. We spray our lawns and parks and food with pesticides and herbicides and insecticides. These are more of the Liver Troublemakers I mentioned earlier.
All of this creates a sludge in your hot liver, and it mixes with bilirubin and cholesterol and goes up into the gallbladder. The gallbladder is naturally cooler—it has a thin lining of fluid around it that keeps it cool. As that hot sludge that came from the liver cools, it forms stones in the gallbladder. Science and research won’t discover what’s in the sludge—that it’s full of toxic heavy metals, chemicals and other poisons—for another 200 years or so. If an analysis was done on the sludge in gallbladders, it would take so much time and money and energy to sort out the different chemicals. And all the chemical companies would be held responsible—there would be major class action lawsuits about how all these poisons are getting into our bodies and causing health problems.
Many people think they’re eating healthy foods and they’re not eating processed foods and junk food, but they’re still usually on a diet which is hard for the liver. If you’re eating high protein or high fat (which almost everyone is), you’re bogging down the liver and helping pathogens to hide and grow inside the body. Whether your diet is Mediterranean or vegan or paleo or something else, and whether the fats are plant-based or from animal products, almost everyone is eating too much fat for the liver to handle.
A lot of people will begin a new diet and find that it helps them, so then they believe the new diet is the right way to eat. But the thing is most diets are somewhat helpful because they get people off the garbage—the processed foods and doughnuts and fried foods and so on. Most diets have people eating more clean foods and more whole foods. But down the road these diets aren’t going to clear people’s health conditions. The diets tend to deemphasize fruits and include too much fat, which will burden the liver and affect people’s health. Almost everyone needs to lower their fat intake and eat more fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables. Thankfully, there are so many ways you can support your liver and your body so that you can alleviate symptoms and conditions.
Behind Weight Gain
Weight gain also comes down to the liver. In truth, it means your liver is sluggish. I have a whole chapter on mystery weight gain and another chapter on sluggish liver in Liver Rescue. While two other factors, the thyroid and the adrenals, can often be involved, weight gain is really about what your liver is up against.
The Liver Troublemakers I list in Liver Rescue and mentioned earlier are what weaken the liver. There are pathogens like viruses (including undiscovered viruses) inside the liver. Then when we’re under stress it means adrenaline pumps through our bodies, and our liver has to absorb that too. Then there are the toxins we’ve inherited and that we take in through daily life. Add a high fat and high protein diet on top of that, which greatly burdens the liver, and you’re on your way to pre-fatty liver or eventually fatty liver and a sluggish, weakened liver. Ideally, the liver would be strong and uncompromised enough to process fats, toxins, and hormones with ease, neutralizing and getting rid of the toxins altogether while only holding on to high-quality fats and hormones that could be useful to your body later. The reality is that for most people, the liver simply has too much to do and the liver can’t process fat as it’s meant to, so fat cells begin to collect in the liver at a more rapid rate.
The liver becomes so congested internally that fat builds around the outside of it, with pre-fatty and then fatty liver developing. Fat cells then begin to accumulate in the intestinal tract, and eventually, the heart and arteries get saturated. Weight starts to cling on around the waist. Lymph weight is also a key factor that I explain in detail in Liver Rescue.
In one way or another, weight gain is the result of a liver that’s been pushed over the edge. Sometimes the liver gets pushed too far and then it’s not for six months or even a year before the person starts to rapidly gain weight. But with time, as the diet is cleaned up and these Liver Troublemakers are released and removed, the liver will start to heal and the weight will come off.
There’s so much misinformation out there and even harmful health trends everywhere you look. It’s vital that you have these truths in your hands so you can take proper care of yourself and your loved ones.
* The best resource for gallbladder, gut and weight gain issues is Liver Rescue. I can only get at a fraction of what’s in the book in an article. I recommend studying this book so you’ll be empowered with your health and know what’s true and what’s harmful.
* Lower your fat intake. Remember, whether you’re eating plant-based fats or animal-based fats, it’s all bogging down your liver. If you’re thinking you probably don’t have a fatty liver, you might be surprised. The majority of people in this country have at least some degree of pre-fatty liver, if not a fatty liver. The liver may be in a condition that’s too early to diagnose, but it’s not too early for it to start having a negative effect on your health. When the liver starts getting fatty, it allows pathogens to prosper and prevents toxins from successfully leaving the body; fatty liver is a big problem that plays a role in a lot of health issues. Over the years, once your liver starts becoming fatty, everything else starts going slowly down the drain. Your liver has a critical function in keeping you well. This incredible organ grabs toxins and then works to neutralize them and send them out of the body, completing it’s detoxification role. Or, the liver snags the toxins and buries them deep within itself to keep them from floating around in the bloodstream where they can damage other parts of the body—in particular your heart and brain.
However, when the liver starts to become fatty and can’t function as well against the barrage of toxins and pathogens we’re exposed to in modern life, your liver can’t properly protect you anymore. And that’s the beginning of all kinds of health problems. People start to have skin issues later in life, or they’re told something’s out of balance with their hormones, or they begin to have neurological disorders, or they’re diagnosed with an autoimmune disease. People find themselves going from doctor to doctor with all kinds of symptoms and diagnoses—or not—but without any real answers.
I want to help you heal and get out of this misinformation merry-go-round. You don’t have to wait decades for the answers—you can work on healing now with the truths available to you in Liver Rescue. It’s all about knowing how the body works, how your blood works and how your liver works (and what’s really inside all three of them). Creating Thicker, Fattier Blood
Part of the reason so many of us have at least a pre-fatty liver is because as we go through life, we eat to survive. We’re under stress. We run into challenging circumstances. Pressure mounts up around us, and all of it keeps us from eating healthier foods. When we have a chronic illness on top of all that, sometimes the best we can do is just get through the day. So people end up eating a doughnut or grabbing a slice of pizza or buying a hot dog from the food truck or eating half a jar of peanut butter. We eat to survive. We eat to comfort ourselves. We eat to satisfy cravings. And over time, it all adds up. Your blood gets full of more and more fat.
What you need to know is that the more fat you have in your blood on a daily basis, whether it comes from animal foods or plant foods, the more likely you are to develop a fatty liver. When the blood has more fat in it, the blood becomes thicker. The thicker the blood, the less oxygen there is for the liver. And when the liver doesn’t have enough oxygen, it suffers and can’t do its job well.
Blood thickness is the liver’s deal breaker. It would be a miracle if you could get a blood fat test at the doctor, just like people can do a quick blood sugar test. It could take medicine forward in leaps and bounds. Because that information about the ratio of fat in the blood has everything to do with the health of the liver, and the health of the liver sets the stage for just about every chronic illness and disease, including cancer.
Not only are high blood fat levels bad for your liver, but they are also bad for the rest of your body too. When blood fat is high, anything can prosper, including pathogens like bacteria and viruses. These pathogens are the true cause of most chronic illness, including so-called autoimmune disease. The short story is your body does not attack itself and you can heal these illnesses by clearing out what’s really behind these conditions: pathogens, toxins heavy metals, radiation, and all kinds of chemicals and toxins. The real causes of chronic illnesses and symptoms are a mystery to medical communities, so it has never been more important to empower yourself with the truth and take healing into your own hands with this information.
Lately sugar has been under heat as the cause of so much illness. But what people don’t think about when they point the finger at sugar for everything, is that fat and sugar are almost always eaten together. There’s the coffee with milk and sugar. There’s the BBQ sauce with sugar that goes on the fatty pulled pork. There’s the cheese sandwich with the high fat content of the cheese and butter. And there are the cookies and pastries and cakes, all of which have fat and sugar. Or there’s the straight sugar, like a candy cane, that you eat at the end of a festive meal that had a lot of fat.
Certainly people who cut down on added and refined sugars (I’m not talking about the natural sugars in fruit—which are incredible for you) will find their health improves. However, if they don’t also start to lower the fats, they’re unfortunately still going to have health issues down the road.
The Problem with Fat
Right now a lot of people are promoting a high-fat, high-protein diet, but this is a harmful trend. Whether the fat is plant-based and comes from foods like nuts, soy and oils or whether it’s animal-based and comes from eggs, milk, cheese, or chicken—too much fat thickens the blood, ages the body, and is hard on the body and liver.
What’s happening when people are doing these diets that are high-fat, high-protein, no carbohydrate and no fruit is they’re losing a lot of water. If they’re losing weight, that’s what it is—largely water. So people think they’re losing weight effectively, but they’re really just dehydrating themselves, thickening the fat in their blood and starving the brain of the glucose it needs from fruit and carbohydrate-rich vegetables to function well.
As I mentioned earlier, the liver needs oxygen to do its job well (and the thicker the blood, the less oxygen is present). The liver also needs water. So when people do these high-fat, high-protein diets and lose water, it’s another strike against the liver. Your liver needs water to cleanse it and perform the detoxification process. It needs oxygen and water to sort out and deal with the harmful elements: viruses, bacteria, toxic heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, and other toxins and chemicals.
The liver also needs oxygen and water to sort through the blood, especially thick blood, and take in the beneficial nutrients: vitamins, minerals, phytochemicals and antioxidants (if you eat lots of fruit, you’ll have lots of healthy antioxidants). Your liver helps direct the beneficial nutrients and send the glucose and glycogen to your heart and your brain. You see, your brain and central nervous system run on glucose and glycogen, not fat. These natural sugars keep the brain cool and keep it running well for the long haul. On the other hand, chronic high fat diets atrophy and shrink the brain with time.
Even someone who exercises all the time and doesn’t have a scrap of fat on their body can have thick, fatty blood and can be on their way to a fatty liver. This seemingly healthy person can have a different story going on internally, and with time it can catch up with them. That’s what’s happening with some of these athletes we hear about who are having strokes and heart attacks in their 40s and 50s. Their blood fat levels are so high that the heart has to strain far more than it should to try to pump blood and this thick blood constricts their blood vessels.
Since a majority of the country has fatty liver to some degree, we need to dive into the solutions. When the liver is cared for and treated right you can heal just about any kind of illness. Stomach = Not So Smart, Liver = Genius
Your stomach is actually the least intelligent organ in the body. But that’s part of how our bodies are brilliantly designed. You see, if the stomach wasn’t stupid, we’d be in trouble. That’s because throughout human history we’ve needed to be able to eat what we need to eat to survive. We don’t always have a lot of resources, but we need to be able to eat to stay alive. Our stomach is essentially just a pouch that gets marching orders from the brain. If it were an intricate tool that provided guidance or forewarning about what to eat, people might not get the calories they needed to stay alive. The stomach’s dull role gives us a better chance at surviving life on this planet. Don’t mistake this for meaning that the functions the stomach performs are stupid. That couldn’t be further from the truth. The stomach and everything that happens inside it is miraculous and still mostly unknown to science and research.
The liver, on the other hand, is truly genius. It is so smart, it knows if you eat a cheeseburger followed by chocolate cake every year on your birthday. It will document and record that so it can be ready every 365 days to process that meal. Your liver knows if you do Friday night pizza every week, and it tries to get ready and produce the bile needed to digest that cheese and fat and oil.
This is actually one reason people get confused and sometimes think that vegetables bother them. If your liver is preparing bile to process the Friday night pizza and then you switch one week to a big salad with lots of fresh vegetables, it’s a surprise to your liver so the digestion can be a little off. Over time, of course, as you switch to a healthier diet, your liver adjusts accordingly and becomes even healthier and more effective in all its jobs.
Time for Healing
The bottom line is we’ve got to take care of our liver. When we treat our livers right, they can protect us from pretty much every health issue out there. So dig into Liver Rescue, and follow these tips to get started right away:
* Lower your fat intake. Whether it’s paleo, vegan or anything in between, it’s important to lower the fats. You may even want to try eating fat-free for a while if you want to turn your health around quickly. I’ve seen people with Lyme disease and multiple sclerosis (MS) get out of bed by cutting fat and eatings lots of leafy greens and fruits.
* If you’re eating animal products, reduce your intake to once every other day at most. If you’re eating lots of nuts, oils, seeds, or avocados, try reducing them by at least 50% and omitting oil altogether.
* Eat more fruit. Fruit is bursting with antioxidants, which prevent damage from oxidation and harmful elements we take in. The antioxidants in fruit will help clean out the toxins from your blood and increase the amount of oxygen in your bloodstream and in your liver. The natural sugars in fruit will also help your brain and central nervous system run well. But fruit does a lot more than just provide antioxidants. * Stay hydrated. Eating fruit and drinking herbal tea, water with lemon or lime and coconut water will give your liver the water it needs to do its job.
* Drink celery juice. Every morning on an empty stomach, drink 16 ounces of straight celery juice. Then wait 15 minutes before eating breakfast. Celery juice is an incredible medicinal tonic that will do wonders for your liver and your health.
I know there’s a lot of misinformation out there, and it’s confusing and difficult to know what’s right. But please know that you don’t have to suffer anymore. Why do we bloat? Everyone has experienced bloating at some stage, or if they haven’t yet, it’s very likely they will in the future. And yet despite it being so prevalent, medical science and research know very little about what is really behind bloating. Even the trendiest diets today don’t have accurate answers for bloating. Many of those diets blame lectins, but lectins are not the problem—as I share in my book, Liver Rescue, there are lectins in every single fruit and vegetable. The lectin information that tells you to avoid certain fruits and vegetables is misinformation that you need to know the truth about so you don’t deprive yourself of their healing nutrients. Others blame gluten, and while the unknown truth is that gluten does feed pathogens like Epstein-Barr virus, HSV, shingles, and streptococcus bacteria, which science and research hasn’t yet discovered, the real cause of bloating lies much deeper.

A Sluggish Liver
Currently, nine out of ten people have some level of a sluggish liver. As I share in Liver Rescue, it will be ten out of ten people in the future. This means that eventually everyone will experience a symptom or health condition that stems from a compromised, overburdened and toxic liver—whether it’s acne or other skin issues like eczema or vitiligo, digestive issues like bloating, fatigue, diabetes, high cholesterol, high blood pressure, heart attacks, strokes, gallbladder problems, and more. These all have a sluggish or fatty liver at their core.
How does the liver become sluggish? Over our lifetimes we are exposed to a countless number of toxins and pathogens, what I call “Liver Troublemakers.” In Liver Rescue, I share a list of hundreds of these Liver Troublemakers and how we get exposed to them. We are also born with Liver Troublemakers already sitting inside our livers. This is not because of genetics; it’s because at conception and when we are in the womb we inherit toxins and pathogens carried in our family line that have been passed down from one generation to the next. That’s why some babies are born with or can quickly develop issues like jaundice, PANDAS, eczema, digestive troubles, and more.
One of the major causes of a weakened liver is the presence of toxic heavy metals, like mercury, lead, cadmium, or copper in your system, which are one of the groups of Liver Troublemakers. Environmental chemicals and toxins also play a role in weakening the liver. Detergents, colognes, gasoline, insecticides, pesticides, and preservatives are all examples of toxins that we are constantly surrounded by. It would be impossible to avoid all of these on a regular basis, but what we can do is eat the right foods to protect our livers and keep them strong and healthy. Another reason is because of pathogens and their byproduct can also move from the liver into the intestines. These can all bleed from the liver when it’s overburdened and sluggish and coat the lining of the small intestine and colon, causing more bloating as it hampers any good bacteria that are present and feeds bad bacteria and other unproductive microorganisms.
Another factor that impedes the liver is a high fat diet, which are the same as high protein diets whether they are based on animal foods or plant foods. In both cases, the high fat content of the diet leads to bile production being inhibited, which prevents food from being broken down fully. This alone can lead to bloating. I discuss exactly how this process occurs and why high fat and high protein diets can cause this in Liver Rescue.
Even more important than bile production is immune support, one of the liver’s thousands of chemical functions. Medical science and research are unaware that the liver has its own immune system of miraculous fighter and protector cells to keep you as safe and healthy for as long as possible against the onslaught of toxins and pathogens we face and the high fat foods almost everyone eats. When your liver is stressed, which by now you know is the case in nine out of ten people and soon to be every single person, the liver will divert its energy to the immune system and bile production will continue to suffer. And, when bile suffers, so does the stomach’s production of hydrochloric acid, preventing the small intestines from absorbing nutrients. Next, proteins and fats begin to rot and go rancid in your gut. This gut rot also can result in bloating.
Due to this low bile and hydrochloric acid production, the undigested food debris composed particularly of fat and protein ultimately feeds the pathogens as well, further coating the intestinal tract and creating even more symptoms. A condition I call ammonia permeability—which medical communities confuse with leaky gut—develops, with food decomposing in your intestinal tract and producing ammonia gas that both causes even more expansion of the intestinal tract (creating bloating, cramping, discomfort, and distension) and also rises up the gut into your stomach, contributing to further diminishment of hydrochloric acid and even the reserves in the stomach glands and tissue of the components that make hydrochloric acid.
In addition to the Liver Troublemakers and a high fat and high protein diet, an increase of adrenaline in the body also weakens bile. Added adrenaline could come from drinking too much coffee, eating a high fat diet, traumatic or emotional events in your life, or simply a very busy or high-stress lifestyle that keeps your body in a fight or flight response. Almost everyone today is dealing with the impact of excess adrenaline due to the speed and nature of our lives here on earth today. The Do’s and Don'ts
If you are trying to heal your liver and bloating, it’s important to reduce the amount of high-fat, high-protein foods you eat. Whether you eat a plant based or or animal foods diet, too much fat and protein will only result in more bloating and digestive issues eventually.
I know that high protein and high fat diets are the popular trend right now, but unfortunately these diets are misleading people. While their benefit is that they remove processed foods from the diet and can give some results for someone who was eating worse foods before, unfortunately these diets are not the answer for chronic illness and symptoms long term. Whey protein, pea protein, coconut oil, milk, yogurt, peanut butter and almond butter—all of these additions to your morning smoothies will aggravate bloating.

But do not be fooled by trends like nutritional yeast, which saturates your liver in glutamic acid, or apple cider vinegar, which may be good for your skin topically, but pickles your organs internally. The best foods to incorporate into your daily routine are fresh leafy greens that are rich in essential mineral salts. Butter leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, romaine lettuce, and spinach are all excellent options. Sprouts, kale, cucumbers, zucchini, broccoli, and asparagus are all healing foods for bloating. Fruits are incredible for healing bloating. Papaya, bananas, figs, pears, kiwi, apples, and apricots are excellent choices for bloating. Really, the options are endless when you consider the variety of fruits and vegetables out there—and you can eat all you want.
As you probably know from my other radio episodes and books, straight celery juice has amazing healing properties. Try drinking 16 ounces of celery juice on an empty stomach every morning. The key is to be consistent. Bloating is not going to go away overnight, but these foods are going to help build up the strength of your liver. Keep in mind that your liver has a lot of healing to do and it takes time for bile reserves to build back up. Everyone is different but you some may also notice that as they begin to include straight celery juice and more fruits, leafy greens and vegetables into their diet, it may seem like their bloating is worse.
If this happens and it’s not because of other foods you are still eating that are too high in fat or protein or are unhealthy foods, it’s due to your body pushing out toxins, killing off viruses and bacteria, and restoring your bile and hydrochloric acid and doing its other amazing healing work. Bloating can stick around for a while because as you start to heal you are giving your liver an opportunity to rid itself of toxins that have been long buried. And everyone’s liver is different, so healing can take a different amount of time for different people. Most people eliminate their bloating symptoms right away when consuming straight celery juice on an empty stomach every day, but for some it may take longer.
Digestive problems, including bloating, can all be traced back to the liver. As I have shared, undigested food and bloating are signs that the liver is overburdened, and a liver under stress will not only affect bile production, but also cause toxins to leak out into the intestines for reabsorption. Increased toxins in the intestines then results in conditions like SIBO from an overgrowth of the streptococcus bacteria. This chain reaction only weakens the liver and bile further, causing more bloating. The only way to truly resolve bloating long term is to learn these truths about what’s really behind your bloating and take the correct steps to heal it. The True Cause
Eczema, psoriasis and acne have everything to do with what’s going on in the liver. All skin conditions that aren’t injuries actually stem from the liver. Your liver is so important, and it works so hard for you—more than you can possibly imagine and more than medical science and research are aware. For example, the liver performs over 2000 life-saving chemical functions but only a fraction of these have been discovered. If you suffer from a skin condition of any kind, you definitely want to read Liver Rescue. Let’s start with a little more information about the liver, which is a miraculous and amazing organ. There are basically three main layers of the liver, or three depths. There’s the dense core deep inside the big lobe, there’s a sub-surface area and then there’s the surface or “skin” of the liver. All three layers can hold pathogens and toxins—and it’s these pathogens and toxins in the liver that are the real cause of skin conditions. What type of skin condition you have simply depends on the types and amount of these pathogens and toxins you have.
Three things have to be present in the liver for eczema and psoriasis to occur. First, there has to be a toxic heavy metal inside the liver. Second, there has to be a pathogen—specifically a virus. And third, the liver has to have a certain combination of the right heavy metals and pathogens in order to cause eczema or psoriasis.
Now here’s the deal: different combinations of toxins and pathogens cause different varieties of eczema, psoriasis and other skin conditions. That’s why skin issues manifest so differently in different people and there are over 100 varieties of eczema alone (which hasn’t yet been discovered.) The condition can come and go for some people, but it might stick around just about forever for others. Sometimes it’s confined to just one part of the body, so only the hands or only the legs and knees are affected. It might be patchy or rough or cracked or look like a constellation, depending on the person. It may occur in early childhood, or in the teenage years, or when you’re middle aged, or only when you’re elderly. All these differences are because the “recipe” of toxins and bugs lead to a different outcome and because there are so many varieties of eczema and psoriasis.
How Skin Conditions Develop
Now you know that certain pathogens and toxins in the liver cause skin conditions, but you might be wondering where they came from.
First of all, science and research doesn’t know yet about how many bugs—viruses and bacteria—are present in the liver. The study of viruses (virology) is severely underfunded these days—though it used to receive more attention in the past. People can literally enter the world with viruses already inside their liver that have been passed on as early as conception and during the baby’s development in the womb from their family line. Babies can suffer with eczema from such a young age that eczema is considered to be genetic. Putting the blame for chronic illnesses on genes is a great mistake that I address in my book Thyroid Healing. Eczema, psoriasis, acne and other skin issues are not genetic. It is the pathogens and toxins inherited from the family line that sets someone up to have the same illness that their parents or ancestors did
If you’ve been diagnosed with vitiligo, you have most likely been told you have an autoimmune disorder and that not much can be done to heal it. According to this theory, your body is destroying its melanin-producing cells, responsible for the pigment of your skin. But this is exactly that: a theory. It’s not the truth and it’s not why you or someone you know has vitiligo. The entire autoimmune theory that your body attacks itself is incorrect. It’s critical to understand this if you have vitiligo or any other condition that you’ve been told is autoimmune. Unfortunately, this false belief is at the foundation of medical thinking, leaving countless people feeling like they are living in a body that has turned against them.
The truth is that your body never turns against you. There’s a very real cause of so-called autoimmune conditions like vitiligo, eczema, Hashimoto’s disease, fibromyalgia, multiple sclerosis and others, and these are real illnesses. And once you know the real cause, which I share in Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease, you can then apply the information that can help you heal.
If it’s not autoimmune, what is it?
The answer to this question has three parts. Primarily, vitiligo and many other autoimmune diseases are caused by an epidemic of viruses medical science and research haven’t yet discovered. It’s specific viruses that are to blame for so many chronic symptoms and illnesses. In the case of vitiligo, it can be HHV-6 or the Epstein-Barr virus (EBV). Recently, medical science has conducted studies that prove that EBV is linked to vitiligo, but their findings are deceiving. In claiming that a link exists, they deny that EBV is actually the cause, not just linked. Instead, they still blame vitiligo on genetics and continue to diagnose vitiligo as an autoimmune condition. Neither of which are true. Putting the focus on genetics and autoimmune shifts the attention away from healing and toward the promotion of an onslaught of unnecessary drugs and treatments that won’t address the root cause. In reality, the connection between EBV and vitiligo is more than a mere affiliation.
Another aspect of this condition, where medical science is a bit closer to the truth, is the role of industrial chemicals. However, while medical research shows that vitiligo can be triggered by exposure to industrial chemicals, they are not clear on why this is. For example, if you work in a factory that exposes you to industrial chemicals, chances are that you or someone else in that factory has been diagnosed with vitiligo. But the issue of industrial chemicals is more than one of exposure. These chemicals and toxins are deep within the body of anyone diagnosed with vitiligo and usually were inside the body in the womb and at birth because they are passed down from generation to generation, which is what gives the illusion that this condition is the fault of damaged or defective genes. You can then get even more exposure over your lifetime. Heavy metals present in the body can include mercury, lead, nickel, steel, and others, but when it comes to vitiligo, aluminum is the main culprit followed by copper. It can also be formaldehyde that’s to blame.
The third component in this equation is oxidation. In order for aluminum or copper to cause vitiligo, it needs to be oxidized. How exactly does oxidation occur? As these metals sit in the liver they interact and react to other metals. In combination with a high fat diet, which burdens the liver, heavy metals fill with air and expand. Once aluminum and other heavy metals are oxidized, they corrode and burst. If even a low-grade virus is present in the body, this explosion of microscopic pieces of the aluminum or copper feeds the virus. Medical science and research don’t yet know that viruses actually eat and that these toxic heavy metals are some of their very favorite foods.
When HHV-6, EBV and other viruses sit in the liver and feed off of heavy metals such as aluminum, they release a poison that travels to the skin. This methyl-aluminum poison creates a dermatoxin that destroys the melanin or pigment-producing cells in your body. The result is vitiligo. It’s important to note that these dermatoxins and internally created, not external dermatoxins such as chemicals that irritate the skin. Dermatoxins can travel to other destinations in the body as well, but commonly they make their way to the face or knees through the lymphatic system. Each person’s lifestyle—how much they exercise, their diet, and environment—also determines where dermatoxins travel and how they affect the body. None of this has been discovered by science and research yet. The Role of Stress
Stress often takes the blame for illnesses across the board, but there’s more to understand about what’s really happening in the body. Stress weakens the immune system, which allows viruses to gain a stronger foothold in the body. Stress also triggers excess adrenaline to be released in the body and adrenaline is another favored food of viruses. Stress can play a part in triggering countless conditions, but if you are suffering from vitiligo you also need to rid your body of aluminum, copper and formaldehyde, kill off the viruses in your liver, and support your liver by reducing fat in your diet and applying the healing steps I share in Liver Rescue. In short, while stress is indeed a trigger and should be avoided if possible, it is more important to know why it is a trigger and what you can do to heal. How to Heal
At this point, you are probably asking yourself what your options are. To get aluminum, copper and formaldehyde out of the liver, it’s important to lower your fat intake, whether you are a meat-eater or plant-based. It’s also important to remove the harmful foods I list in Liver Rescue. Cutting out these foods and lowering your fat intake will slow down the oxidation process and help eradicate viruses from the body—step one of healing—but a second significant step to healing vitiligo is removing the aluminum or copper. The beginning of the liver story isn’t too pretty. Basically, we’re all born with livers that are already weakened, because a lot of toxins are actually passed down the family line. We inherit them at conception and in the womb. And then our livers are barraged by a wide range of toxins throughout the entire course of our lives because of the imperfect modern world we live in.
Now, our livers are designed to deal with some of that. We were made with this incredible organ for a reason. The way it works is the liver contains three levels, or three depths. When you’re exposed to toxins, your liver works hard to snatch them up and capture them away within the depths of the liver to protect you. Ideally, your liver will then also neutralize the toxins, detoxify them and remove them from your body through its various elimination channels. But the problems come when your liver is flooded or bogged down with too many toxins and it can’t keep you safe from all of them, despite it’s miraculous and constant efforts to do so.
Troublemakers for Your Liver
Let’s run through some of the toxins our livers are inundated with. But first, I’ll warn you that this list could seem a little overwhelming, especially since you can’t run from all of this or completely avoid all of these toxins. Just remember that you can work to clear these troublemakers and heal your liver and get your quality of life back. I’m going to tell you how. But again, for more details, specific healing steps and dosages, and for a complete list of what I call the “Liver Troublemakers,” you’ll want to get a copy of Liver Rescue. Please note that the troublemakers listed below are only a handful of the Liver Troublemakers listed in Liver Rescue. Refer to the chapter on this topic in Liver Rescue for a complete list.
Petrochemicals and plastics. We inhale gas exhaust all the time, including when we pump our gas or drive behind a diesel truck or walk by an idling school bus. We absorb it into our bloodstream when we use kerosene, lighter fluid, gas grills and gas stoves. To understand where and how the liver stores these toxins, and why so many people’s livers aren’t given the opportunity to safely remove them from the body at a later date, please refer to Liver Rescue.
Chemical solvents and nanotechnology. These are everywhere, including in cleaning agents, carpeting agents, paint thinner, paint lacquer, new furniture and nanotechnology.
Household chemicals. These are pervasive in air fresheners, colognes, perfume, hairspray, scented candles, hair dye, conventional makeup, conventional cleaning products, conventional laundry detergent and conventional dryer sheets.
Smoke. Any kind of smoke exposure goes to the liver, whether that’s the smoke from the largely unknown agricultural practice of burning masses of plastic or from a forest fire or from a cigarette.
Chlorine. Any time you swim in a chlorinated pool, you’re absorbing some chlorine through your skin.
Stress hormones. When we’re under stress, adrenaline pumps into the liver, which puts us at risk for countless symptoms and conditions including liver disease, breaks down our bile reserves and breaks down hydrochloric acid in the stomach. Even in young people, livers today are being bombarded with the effects of excess adrenaline.
Viruses and bacteria. There are all kinds of viruses and bacteria in our modern world, including many undiscovered strains of Epstein-Barr, shingles, herpes and streptococcus. I have revealed these different strains in my books. People can inherit some of these pathogens through their family line. They can also be exposed in many other ways, like when they take a sip of a friend’s water or touch a dirty doorknob and later rub their eyes.
Toxic heavy metals. People can also inherit metals like lead, mercury, aluminum, nickel, barium, arsenic and copper. And it’s all too easy to be exposed to these metals in daily life. Take the heavy metal copper for instance. When the local park is being sprayed with pesticides (many of which contain copper and mercury) and you breathe that in, or when you drink water that ran through a copper pipe, you’re absorbing the metal. This industrial copper is different to the trace mineral copper which can be found in healthy foods.
Pharmaceuticals. Medications you’ve taken over the years can be harbored in the liver. And sadly, our water supply is filled with them: antibiotics, antidepressants, anti-inflammatory medications, biologics, immunosuppressant drugs, prescription amphetamines, statins, blood pressure medication, hormone medication, thyroid medication, steroids and even contraceptives. This means that even if you’ve never taken medications, you’ll still have some stored in your liver from drinking tap water at some time in your life. It’s OK if you need to take certain meditations, but you can still clear out the past medications from your system so your liver can heal and handle new exposure more effectively.
There are also ways of eating and some foods that are simply hard on the liver. Let’s take a look at some of these now:
Eggs. They keep pathogens that thrive inside the liver alive. Eggs are what was used in labs to raise viruses like Epstein-Barr. Viruses feed off eggs. It doesn’t matter whether those eggs are organic and pasture-raised (although certainly if you are going to eat eggs, that’s the kind of eggs you want to be eating). Nonetheless, eggs are eggs, and unfortunately they allow viruses to thrive. The undiscovered truth is that viruses are the actual root cause of many so-called autoimmune diseases and other health conditions. Dairy. Cheese, milk and other dairy products will also feed viruses and be very hard on your liver.
Vinegar. Yes, even apple cider vinegar (which is certainly the best kind of vinegar) can be harmful to your liver (it basically pickles it!) when you consume too much. For more on apple cider vinegar and other misinformed health trends popular today, again, see Liver Rescue.
Excessive salt. Bad salts or excessive salt is hard on your liver, and if you combine the salt with vinegar you also create a pickling action in your organ.
Pork products. Very high in fat so they are extremely hard on the liver

I know it can seem overwhelming to consider all these problematic Liver Troublemakers. But the good news is that you now have answers and the information you need to heal. And there’s so much you can do to heal and get your life back. Let’s focus now on some powerful foods, herbs and supplements that will help your liver heal and work well into the future.

Apples. They’re an incredible food that provides a specific kind of hydration--a living water--to the liver. Your liver needs certain kinds of hydration that can only come from fruit, and apples are really important for this.
Apricots. Dried or fresh, the contain helpful phytochemical compounds.
Arugula. Causes a gentle purging of the liver.
Asparagus. Provides a type of flavonoid that’s rare. It soothes the liver, and this flavonoid helps calm a sick liver, purges the liver and strengthens the liver’s immune system.
Atlantic dulse and kelp. These are really good for the liver. Dulse is an ingredient in the Medical Medium heavy metal detox smoothie for a reason.
Bananas. They provide a type of glucose for the liver that’s incredible, and they are an antiviral, anti-yeast, antibacterial, and antifungal food.
Berries. They’re a medicine chest all on their own—they’re incredible.
Broccoli. It contains amazing sulfur compounds that stop bacteria. They’re great for clearing out streptococcus that’s in the liver and lymphatic system, which by the way is what causes acne.
Brussels sprouts. It has the same powerful compounds as broccoli.
Celery. I can’t say enough about celery. Spirit and I introduced celery juice to the world decades ago—and it’s all the rage now, rightly so!—for good reason. For one, it contains undiscovered subgroups of mineral salts (called cluster salts) that strip the membranes off of viruses so they die and can be flushed out of the body. This truth won’t be discovered by research and science for another 50 years or so. Celery also restores the liver’s bile production, so hydrochloric acid builds back up in the stomach. Celery purges the liver of toxins, and it also helps dissolve gallstones. I could go on and on about how powerful it is for healing your liver and your health.
Tomatoes. They harness critical micronutrients, phytochemicals, vitamins and minerals that literally stop liver illnesses of all kinds. Tomatoes help the liver detoxify red blood cells safely, and they heal the liver.
