Sprouts & Microgreens: Revitalizing Foods

Sprouts and microgreens are packed with nutrients like vitamin A, B vitamins, minerals, trace minerals, disease-reversing compounds, and other phytochemicals.

The most important role that sprouts and microgreens play is to bring back vitality to people who are always exhausting themselves for others.

Sprouts and microgreens help renew an exhausted reproductive system and revitalize a new mom who hasn’t been getting much sleep. Sprouts and microgreens are phytoestrogenic and important for rebalancing and restoring hormones such as progesterone, estrogen, and testosterone, and for regenerating hormone production of the adrenal glands, thyroid, and the rest of the endocrine system after a woman has given birth.

High in mineral salts that are involved with neurotransmitter chemical production, sprouts and microgreens support the brain with amino acids and enzymes, help pull toxic heavy metals from the brain, and help rejuvenate and strengthen neurons—which ultimately helps with Alzheimer’s, dementia, brain fog, and memory loss.

Sprouts and microgreens are wonderful for skin repair. They help stave off infection and unwanted cell growth. They are the best possible source of what I have termed “elevated biotics”, bacteria critical to your body’s production of vitamin B12.

How To Use:

Every variety of sprout and microgreen has its own unique properties. Sprouts are especially powerful when juiced, and also offer great benefits when eaten whole in salads or wraps or blended into smoothies or raw soups.

For more information on sprouts and microgreens and the symptoms and conditions they can help with, check out the New York Times best-selling book, Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods: Save Yourself and the Ones You Love with the Hidden Healing Powers of Fruits & Vegetables, and the other books in the Medical Medium series.

Radishes: Healing Food

The root of the radish:

This I the part we think of as the radish itself. Radishes are an immune-system replenisher. The sulfur in radishes helps repel pathogens and acts as a wormicide to help kill off intestinal worms and other parasites.

The organosulfides in radishes help keep arteries and veins clean, creating a protective barrier in blood vessels so plaque doesn’t adhere to their linings.

Radishes are incredible heart food, excellent for helping to prevent heart disease and other cardiovascular issues in part by increasing good cholesterol and lowering bad cholesterol. Radishes are very restorative for the kidney, liver, pancreas, and spleen.

The skin of the radish is a helpful cancer preventative.

Radish greens:

The leaves of the radish are the second most powerful prebiotic there is. Radish greens are rich in vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, phytochemicals, and cancer-fighting alkaloids, plus the greens possess antipathogenic properties.

The greens help the colon and other parts of the intestinal tract that have lost the ability to absorb nutrients. Radish greens’ nutrition absorbs into the most dysfunctional digestive tracts, assimilating better than any other food, thanks to their high enzymatic profile; the greens contain various enzymes that are not yet documented by scientific study and that allow for the uptake of nutrients.

Radish greens help remove pathogens, radiation, pesticides and DDT, toxic heavy metals, and other toxins from the body.

Radish greens help stave off neurological conditions, including MS, ALS, and neurological Lyme. By far, radish greens are the most powerful leafy green for someone’s health.

How To Use:

Enjoy radish roots and greens juiced or in salads. Radish roots make a great crunchy snack. Use radishes and their greens in soups, broth, steamed, or stir-fried.

Lemons and Limes: Liver Flushers

The roots of lemon and lime trees go deep into the earth, extracting dozens of precious trace minerals that get passed onto you when you consume the fruits. Lemons and limes are ultra-hydrating and electrolyte-producing, because they are a top source of mineral salts and trace mineral salts.

These citrus siblings have some of the most highly absorbable vitamin C around. Fresh-squeezed lemon or lime offers bioactive calcium that your body craves. Plus, phytochemicals called limonoids in lemons and limes actually bond the vitamin C and calcium together, so that wherever one goes in the body, the other rides along. This enhances the bioavailability of each, and also creates alkalinity in the body to help prevent the growth of almost every type of cancer.

The antioxidant flavonoids in lemons and limes are another ally in fighting disease. And when you’re dealing with a cold, flu, bronchitis, or pneumonia, lemon is one of the most effective mucus expellers you can find. Lemons and limes are also amazing cleansers of the liver, kidneys, spleen, thyroid, and gallbladder. They purge the many toxic substances we collect from exposure to plastics, synthetic chemicals, radiation, and poor food choices.

When going through any sort of detox process, even if it’s just increasing the amount of fruits and vegetables in your diet, it’s a good idea to drink lemon or lime water first thing in the morning. Lemon or lime water is more beneficial for this process than plain water, because filtration has often taken the life out of drinking water, and these citrus stars reawaken its healing abilities.

How To Use:

Drink 16-32oz of Medical Medium Lemon or Lime Water every day upon waking. Use lemons and limes as salad dressing, in fresh juices and smoothies. Squeeze lemon or lime juice on top of fruit bowls, steamed vegetables, or any other meal.

For more information on the symptoms and conditions lemons and limes can help with, check out the New York Times best-selling book, Medical Medium Life-Changing Foods: Save Yourself and the Ones You Love with the Hidden Healing Powers of Fruits & Vegetables.

Oranges & Tangerines: Calcium-Rich Foods

Oranges (and their cousins, tangerines) are full of the coenzyme glutathione, which goes into activation because of their high content of flavonoids and limonoids. This is a relationship medical research has not yet tapped into, and one that makes oranges and tangerines a key to helping the 21st-century epidemic of chronic illness.

Together, glutathione, flavonoids, and limonoids help fight off pathogens, protect the body from radiation damage, and deactivate toxic heavy metals in the system.

Oranges and tangerines are abundant in a form of bioactive calcium you can’t get anywhere else. The body instantly absorbs this calcium, which means that these citrus beauties actually help regrow teeth, not destroy them as is commonly believed. Their acid content is not destructive; rather, it works for you by helping to dissolve kidney stones and gallstones.

Oranges and tangerines are life-giving, and they should be a foundation in the diet. Whether a navel, blood orange, Valencia, mandarin, honey Murcott, clementine, Minneola tangelo, or any other variety, you can support your health by bringing them into your diet every day or as often as possible.

How To Use:

For optimum benefits from oranges and tangerines, consume four per day. As a snack, drizzle raw honey over slices of orange or tangerine. For a predigestive aid, try adding a squeeze of fresh orange or tangerine juice over your favorite salads and dishes. It will help ensure that you digest your meal at the best level possible.

Papaya: Gut Healer

If you’re struggling with any kind of stomach or intestinal disorder, papayas cannot be beat. They can help with colitis, Crohn’s, IBS, ulcers, diverticulitis, gastritis, gastric spasms, liver disease, and pancreatitis. They also kill off H. pylori, C. difficile, and E. coli, plus rid the gut of other unfriendly bacteria and parasites, including worms. Papaya is an ideal food if you’re dealing with SIBO.

Papaya is the number-one fruit for digestibility. Each papaya contains more than 500 undiscovered powerful digestive enzymes that help support the pancreas, aid digestion, and mend the walls of the intestinal tract, reducing inflammation and preventing scar tissue from forming there.

Papaya’s amino acids and enzymes combined create undiscovered subcompound phytochemicals that help repel pathogens. Papaya also contains potent and as yet undiscovered coenzymes that enhance the alkalinity inside the intestinal tract.

Papaya helps relieve constipation. If you suffer from stomach aches or an inflamed intestinal lining, papaya will be your ally in healing the irritated nerve endings that contribute to these ailments.

Whenever someone has gone through a period of not eating, whether from fasting, anorexia, or grave illness, blended papaya is like magic for the refeeding process, because it offers ample calories, optimal nutrition, and digests so favorably.

Papaya is also a miracle worker for the skin. This fruit has anti-wrinkle, fountain-of-youth powers due to its high content of vitamins, minerals, and most important, caratenoids. Not only can it help your skin glow again, it can also help with eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

How To Use:

Look for the Mexican and Central American papaya variety known as Maradol. These medium-to-large papayas are preferable to Hawaiian varieties, which have suffered GMO contamination. For constipation relief, eat half a papaya daily.

Air Fresheners & Scented Candles Are Toxic

Don’t underestimate how toxic air fresheners and scented candles are. Even if you don’t use these in your own home, it doesn’t mean you’re not exposed in stores, doctors’ offices, public restrooms, or friends’ homes.

“We think that by using an air freshener, for example, we’re creating a more pleasing environment. Once we unleash that plug-in air freshener, though, our sense of smell instantly becomes disabled. When you’re living in a home or working in an office or other environment with a plug-in air freshener spewing chemical-laden oil into the air, you may not smell it anymore become you’ve become desensitized to that scent.

These chemically scented, vaporized poisons hurt the lungs—their waxy, oily residue builds up in the lung sacs. If you’re someone who doesn’t smoke and yet you love plug-in air fresheners, you’re better off removing your plug-in air freshener and starting to smoke. That’s right; you actually have a better chance of longer-lasting health and vitality without complicated diseases if you smoke cigarettes than if you breathe plug-in air fresheners day in and day out.

The oily film also ends up in the liver when it enters the bloodstream from the lungs. Plus we swallow air freshener when we breathe it in through our mouth, and that brings it to the intestinal tract, from which it enters the bloodstream and heads to the liver, where it can reduce liver function.

When the chemicals enter our bloodstream, our natural killer cells, lymphocytes, and other white blood cells absorb them, and that instantly weakens our immune cells and even kills some off. Our white blood cells need clean, fresh, oxygenated blood; with chemical scents, our white count becomes hindered. Exposure to a heavy dosage of air freshener or scented candle, or similar scent could mean three to four days of a weakened and lowered immune system. The synthetic scent chemicals can, at the same time, feed viruses and bacteria, allowing them to prosper and reproduce, leading to further illness. Someone who’s prone to urinary tract infections (UTIs), sinus infections, or flare-ups of fibromyalgia, ME/CFS, lupus, MS, eczema, psoriasis, or Hashimoto’s may experience a new flare-up following exposure.”

We can’t avoid these toxins all the time, so it’s important to know how to effectively cleanse them out of your body. You can find out how to do this in Cleanse to Heal.
