Tips for Cold & Flu

When was the last time you suffered from cold or flu symptoms? Some people contract a flu virus (which, as I explain below, is often mistaken as a cold) every year or multiple times a year. Whether it's a sore throat, sinus infection, bronchitis, or pneumonia, a flu virus can trigger a host of unwanted and even life-threatening symptoms and conditions. Today you'll learn how to help prevent the flu and which supplements, foods, and measures you can take to heal from the flu.

Colds

The rhinoviruses that caused the common cold have been superseded by flu viruses that are much stronger. Today, it's likely someone experiencing cold-like symptoms actually has a mild variety of the flu. Another reason someone may have cold-like symptoms is because their body is doing an incredible job fighting off whatever virus is trying to infiltrate their system. Sneezing, sniffling, or a ticklish throat are usually signs of a flu strain.

Flu Season

Flus are usually most rampant in fall and winter, but there are now waves of flus occurring year-round - even in summer. During these warm months, people still find themselves dealing with signs of a flu virus, including sinus infections, stomach bugs and bronchitis, so it's important to take protective steps year-round.

One reason for this never-ending flu season is the rise in international travel. When it's winter in one part of the world and flus are rampant, people still hop on planes and travel to places where it's summer, bringing flu viruses along for the ride.

Instead of thinking in terms of seasons, think of flus in terms of cycles. There's typically a new flu on the horizon every six weeks.

Flu Varieties

Everyone reacts to the flu differently. Some people come down with very high fevers and delirium, while others run low-grade fevers and go about their lives with little disruption. One reason for these varied responses may be the numerous flu varieties people can contract. Different strains provoke different issues. The strength of someone's immune system is another factor.

Mucus, Bronchitis, and Pneumonia

People often mistake sizable mucus buildup in their systems for the stomach flu. In these instances, people are often suffering from a flu that's mostly sinus-related, and their stomach issues are from swallowing so much mucus. As a result, they may experience severe bloating, loss of appetite, and/or mucus-related coughing or vomiting.

Flu viruses create mucus that drains most heavily during the night. Depending on the strain of flu, you may not have a cough initially. But as the mucus drains into the chest and builds up in the lungs, there's a good chance you'll develop one. After a few days, the mucus may begin to break up or additional sinus issues may arise, causing even more mucus to drain into the chest.

When that mucus rests too long in the chest, bacteria can begin to grow, leading to bronchitis. You might be told this bacteria is pneumonia bacteria, but that isn't true. Pneumonia bacteria is simply the label medical communities have given the condition, because this bacteria is still a mystery to medical communities.

The troublesome bacteria is actually one or more of the dozens of varieties of undiscovered streptococcus or chlamydia bacteria. That's what causes the symptoms of bronchitis and pneumonia. Everybody has different varieties of this pneumonia bacteria in their system. The chlamydia bacteria is usually harmless, but it can cause issues if you are severely zinc deficient, consistently making poor food choices, dealing with a lot of stress or not practicing self-care.

Sinus Infections

Not all sinus infections are related to a flu virus. Oftentimes chronic sinus infections are connected to chronic, low-grade streptococcus infections . If you have this kind of streptococcus infection and contract a flu virus, you might see your sinuses worsen severely for a period of time before returning to the usual level of affliction.

Sore Throats

Similar to sinus infections, sore throats aren't always flu-related. Sore throats can be due to chronic, low-grade streptococcus. Unfortunately, a throat culture can't always accurately determine whether a sore throat is strep-related. A child or young adult with a really severe case of streptococcus may have white spots on the back of the throat or tonsils that can be swabbed and accurately identified as streptococcus.

But oftentimes, once streptococcus moves out of its early stages, swabbing for a culture doesn't accurately determine if someone has the bacteria. Frequently, chronic streptococcus can get into the lymphatic system and trigger a sore throat. In this case, a throat culture is unlikely to detect streptococcus. You can learn more about streptococcus in Medical Medium Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease.

Epstein-Barr virus can also cause a sore throat. If you have Epstein-Barr in your body, it can move through the lymphatic system and arise in the throat. This is especially possible if your body is rundown. The virus can cause redness and soreness that typically emerges on only one side of the throat, though it can appear on both sides. Although your throat can be incredibly sore, you won't develop a cough, fever, mucus, or sinusitis.

You can learn more about Epstein-Barr virus in my books Thyroid Healing and Medical Medium.

Preventative Steps

If you suspect you have a flu virus, consider implementing some of these steps to help knock the virus out before it hits hard:

  • Practice good self-care —and especially get adequate sleep—if you notice yourself feeling run down, tired, frazzled or stressed.
  • Keep a bottle of high-quality liquid zinc sulfate on hand at all times. If you have the slightest inkling of symptoms, squirt zinc directly into your throat and let it coat the area. If you're sensitive to zinc, use just a few drops. Read about my zinc shock therapy.
  • Be mindful of your hands, and wash them regularly throughout your day. Shaking hands, pushing shopping carts and opening doors are among the ways your hands come into contact with germs. Keep your fingers and hands away from your eyes and face (where viruses can enter your body) whenever possible.
  • Carry handi-wipes when you're out. (You can use alcohol-based or alcohol-free wipes). When you're at a restaurant, wipe down your hands before your eat. If you're getting on an airplane, wipe down your seat and armrest. You can also wear a face mask.
  • When you're eating out, opt for piping hot dishes instead of raw dishes like salads. The heat from a very hot dish can help kill off a flu virus that might have contaminated your food.
  • Take supplements that build your immune system year-round. This can help prevent illness and speed recovery time if you do get sick. If you're unable to take these supplements year-round, take them ahead of times you know you'll be busy, stressed or traveling and ahead of times you expect you'll have more exposure to the flu. Important immune-strengthening supplements include: liquid zinc sulfate, cat's claw, vitamin C, lemon balm, L-Lysine, B-12 with adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin , and spirulina and chaga.

Which Foods Feed the Flu?

The foods you put into your body can either help prevent viruses or help feed and support viruses, including flu viruses. Medical research and science still don't know that viruses feed off certain food sources and proliferate. Find out more in Thyroid Healing: The Truth behind Hashimoto's, Graves', Insomnia, Hypothyroidism, Thyroid Nodules & Epstein-Barr . Eliminate these foods to help protect yourself:

  • Dairy products. You might feel fine after eating a piece of cheese or drinking a glass of milk, but these dairy products can silently create chaos by feeding any virus, including a flu virus, Epstein-Barr, cytomegalovirus, any of the HHVs (learn more about the herpes viruses here ); bacteria, such as streptococcus, E. coli or MRSA; and parasites or worms. If you're looking to avoid health issues, including a flu virus, eliminate milk, cheese, butter, kefir, yogurt, ghee, and other dairy products. If you already have the flu, eliminating dairy may reduce your symptoms.
  • Eggs Also feed pathogens. If you're not willing to give up eggs, bring a hearty amount of raw garlic into the meal. Even though the eggs will feed the flu virus, the raw garlic will help combat the bug.
  • Chicken. You may be wondering what's wrong with chicken. The answer has to do with avian influenza.

Avian Influenza (Bird Flu)

Flu viruses can feed off birds, and they especially love chicken. Bird flu viruses tend to feed off the bird's adrenal glands and flesh cells, which often leads to dangerous and damaging outcomes.

You don't have to cut chicken out of your diet if: you really enjoy eating it, you don't struggle with any health issues, and you incorporate an abundance of leafy greens, fruits, and vegetables alongside the poultry. However, if you're doing everything possible to avoid catching the flu, eliminating chicken can help.

The Cons of Chicken Soup

If chicken feeds flu viruses, should you eat the go-to cold-and-flu-meal of chicken soup? The answer is, unfortunately, no. You don't have to scrap the soup altogether though. Remove the chicken and fill the soup with a hearty amount of antiviral and anti-flu foods, including onion, garlic, herbs (thyme, rosemary, and oregano), and veggies (celery, carrots, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, zucchini, and bell peppers), and mushrooms. Or, if you really want to keep the chicken in, add even more onion, garlic, herbs, and vegetables to boost the nutritional and antiviral properties. Try this mineral-rich Healing Broth recipe.

Another reason to avoid chicken has to do with its fat content. Have you ever made chicken soup and left it in the fridge overnight? The next time you went to reheat the soup, you may have noticed a thick film of coagulated fat on top. This fat can draw oxygen out of the blood; slow down the liver; prevent oxygen from reaching the immune system, liver, and heart; and work against the immune system as it tries to fight viruses or bacteria.

Zinc Shock Therapy

Several years ago, I was traveling during the height of flu season. Countless people were suffering from coughs, fevers, sinus issues, and more. I was worn out from constant travel and inadequate sleep, and I was feeling run down.

During this time, I noticed a tiny tickle arise in my throat. I realized I was coming down with the flu, and Spirit of Compassion instructed me to do “zinc shock therapy.” I immediately squirted four dropperfuls of liquid zinc sulfate directly into my throat. I let the zinc sit in my throat and administered another dose two hours later. A few hours after that, I administered more. The next morning the subtle signs of an emerging sickness were completely gone! This dosage may be too much for some people, but you can still keep this tool in mind or discuss it with your health practitioner or doctor.

Healing Herbs & Supplements

There are many powerful supplements you can use as weapons against a flu virus. Keep these on hand so that if symptoms appear out of nowhere you can address the issue right away:

Olive leaf is a great daily supplement if you have Epstein-Barr-related symptoms or conditions. It's also helpful if you're starting to feel sick with flu-like symptoms (in this case, increase the dose).

Echinacea and goldenseal help fight a flu. If you're battling streptococcus, strep throat, tonsillitis, or strep-related sinus infections, you may also benefit from using these periodically.

Elderberry syrup is another incredible flu-fighting supplement.

Lomatium root can help with flu symptoms, bronchitis, pneumonia, sinus problems, fever, and more.

Eyebright is amazing at knocking down flus and streptococcus.

Cherry bark helps with a cough.

Mullein leaf is incredible for shingles-related symptoms and conditions. It's also great for fighting the flu, sinus infections, bronchitis, and lung issues.

Propolis can be a powerful immune system support.

Micro-C and cat's claw are great to take daily. If you start to feel sick, increase the amount.

Red root can be another helpful supplement.

When you buy supplements, look for high-quality capsules or alcohol-free tinctures. The Medical Medium preferred supplements page provides recommendations.

Rose hips tea with ample lemon juice added is helpful for flu symptoms, especially sore throats. Many other teas are helpful for flu symptoms too. Remember to add lemon juice for more healing benefits.

If you want to help your kids stay flu-free, use supplements in smaller doses, and consider working with a practitioner to determine the ideal amount for your child.

Healing Foods

The Healing Broth recipe is great to fight off a flu. Even if you don't have a bug, the healing broth can be nourishing, supportive, and protective.

Check out the recipe for turmeric-ginger shots in Life-Changing Foods . This immune-boosting tonic is powerful, but it may be too strong for some people. If it's too intense, try making turmeric-ginger tea by steeping chunks of ginger and turmeric in boiling water. Drinking this soothing liquid throughout the day can shorten the length of your flu and protect you from developing bronchitis or pneumonia.

Include plenty of lemon/lime water; ginger water or tea; celery juice; cucumber juice; raw honey; fresh fruit and vegetable juices such as apple/cucumber juice, orange juice, and green juices; healing broth, and non-caffeinated herbal teas. Sticking to liquids while you have a flu will help you heal as quickly as possible.

Moving Forward

You probably plug in and charge up your phone or computer every day. Next time you plug in your device, ask yourself how you can regularly charge up your immune system as well. The more you use protective tools and strengthen your immune system, the more likely you are to avoid the next nasty flu that cycles through your area.

Herpes Viruses

You may have heard of the herpes virus, but did you know there are many viruses that fall within the herpes family, all of which have multiple undiscovered strains? Although medical research and medical science have uncovered a few of the varieties, like herpes simplex 1 and 2, there are hundreds of other virus strains that are either completely unknown or misunderstood, like in the case of the Shingles and Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), and new viruses and strains are continuing to develop. This article will not only discuss herpes family symptoms, but also dig into the facts surrounding both discovered and undiscovered herpes family viruses, and highlight steps you can take to fight back against these intruders.

Herpes Family Symptoms

There are hundreds of symptoms connected with various herpes family viruses. Below I address a few of the most prevalent symptoms.

Fatigue is often a symptom that stems from a herpes family virus. In some cases, fatigue can exclusively arise from adrenal fatigue, but in most cases people simultaneously experience herpes related neurological and adrenal fatigue

If you have a herpes virus in your system as well as toxic heavy metals, you may experience migraines, depression, anxiety, brain fog and/or concentration issues. Thyroid nodules and cysts, glaucoma, bulging eyes, PCOS, unpleasant perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause symptoms, breast cancer, mystery infertility, high cholesterol, and/or hepatitis C may arise if you’re dealing with the herpes virus Epstein-Barr. I cover this and more extensively in my new book Thyroid Healing.

Certain eye issues, such as eye floaters, are caused by viruses in the herpes family. If you have a torn retina, then your eye floaters many not be a virus-related issue, but it is important to note that certain herpes viruses tend to weaken the retina over a period of time. Eye issues such as a stye can also stem from streptococcus, which is a cofactor of the herpes family.

The shingles virus, which falls within this family, has numerous strains that wreak havoc. Bell’s Palsy is just one of the many conditions that can emerge from a strain of the shingles. If you suffer from edema, or swelling in certain areas of the body including the hands and feet, you may have a herpes virus in your liver. You don’t need to have a rash to have shingles as there are many undiscovered non-rashing varieties that I brought to light in my first book Medical Medium.

Medical research and science has not not discovered that other herpes family symptoms can include tightness in the chest, restless legs syndrome, aches and pains, rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, fibromyalgia, joint pain, headaches, restlessness, muscle weakness, twitches, spasms, tingles, numbness, heart palpitations, goiters, thyroiditis, vertigo, tinnitus, body temperature issues, Raynaud’s syndrome, MS, and sarcoidosis.

Many Undiscovered Herpes Family Viruses

All herpes family viruses are different shapes and sizes. Some viruses appear to have thorn-like edges, while others take a more wavy shape. They can appear as ovals or have leg-like protrusions. Although many of these viruses look completely different, each virus validates its connection to the herpes family. In this section you will learn more about some of the many varieties.

Herpes simplex virus 1 and 2 (HSV-1 & HSV-2)

These two widely known herpes viruses tend to grab people’s attention because of their external appearance on the mouth and private parts. The discovery of these viruses was largely due to the visible symptoms that accompany the virus. When these viruses emerge from dormancy and an outbreak occurs, tingles, numbness, and pain in the areas that have broken out, as well as moderate fatigue, may result.

Medical science and medical research have yet to discover that there are currently close to 10 varieties of HSV-1 and around 15 varieties of HSV-2. Fortunately, HSV-1 and HSV-2 only create mild harm in comparison to the pain and aggravation provoked by other herpes family viruses.

Mouth Varieties

There are around three dozen different mouth-related herpes varieties other than HSV-1 and HSV-2. Canker sores do not stem from HSV-1 or HSV-2, but are created by entirely separate herpes varieties. Canker sores can appear on the mouth, but may pop up on the tongue or gums as well. Red sores, which are a type of canker sore, can also appear around the mouth. Unfortunately, medical research and medical science have yet to reveal the herpes varieties that produce canker sores, and these strains remain unidentified.

Cytomegalovirus

Although medical communities discuss cytomegalovirus as if there is only one variety, there are actually 20 varieties causing various health issues. This frustrating virus can trigger mild to moderate fatigue and organ-related issues. Although it doesn’t give rise to symptoms such as chronic fatigue or fibromyalgia, which I have associated with Epstein-Barr, it is able to release neurotoxins that can cause problems in places like the kidneys, heart, and liver.

Epstein-Barr

This virus, which creates an abundance of symptoms including many of the issues mentioned above, was a miraculous, accidental discovery made in 1964. I have revealed that there are currently over 60 varieties wreaking havoc on people’s health. While some varieties are fairly docile, others can be severe and tremendously aggravating. Even children are starting to endure the effects of some of the more acute strains. It’s so critical to understand this virus and exactly how it works that I dedicated a chapter to it in my first book Medical Medium and cover it more thoroughly than I ever have before in my new book Thyroid Healing. It’s essential reading to allow you to better understand today’s mystery and chronic illnesses.

One surprising condition that can arise from some strains of the Epstein-Barr virus is breast cancer. Currently, women are getting tested for BRAC1 or BRAC2 gene mutation as an indicator of whether they will get breast cancer. This isn’t a helpful or accurate indicator as breast cancer is not a genetic issue. In fact, in over 50% of breast cancer cases, the person does not have the BRAC1 or BRAC2 gene. In most cases, as I describe in my book Thyroid Healing, it’s caused by EBV.

It is tragic that medical communities haven’t yet discovered these truths about Epstein-Barr virus when this knowledge could transform the lives of those suffering. That’s why I am bringing this information to light and am so determined to get it into your hands.

HHV-6

HHV-6, discovered in 1986, can be an incredibly frustrating virus to deal with. Medical communities are still not aware of all the symptoms and conditions associated with HHV-6 and are blind to the fact that this virus now has over 20 strains and is continuing to grow.

HHV-6 tends to ruthlessly go after organs. It can cause major injuries and lead to death in certain cases. If you or a loved one suffers from mystery heart problems or mystery kidney disease, HHV-6 is a likely culprit. Yes, heart-related issues can arise if poor dietary choices have led to clogged arteries, but there are other problems, such as heart disease, that can surface if HHV-6 moves into this organ. If your doctor detects chronic inflammation inside the heart’s ventricles or valves, it may be a sign of HHV-6 in your system.

If you’ve been forced to go on dialysis due to kidney failure, you may have been incorrectly told that that you’re suffering from an autoimmune issue and that your body is attacking itself. This is incorrect. Your body never attacks itself! A more likely scenario is that HHV-6 is attacking the kidney and causing your kidney failure.

HHV-7

HHV-7 started out as a strain of HHV-6, but overtime transformed and grew into an entirely separate virus. Although this virus isn’t stirring up too many issues at the present time, it will likely cause a great deal of conditions and illnesses in the next twenty or thirty years. The reason HHV-7 has yet to start creating trouble is because it is currently in a period of rooting.

The Rooting Process

In the past, every virus that is now wreaking havoc had a moment in time where it rooted itself in its new environment. This rooting period can last for roughly 10 to 15 years. During this initial phase, the virus is ignorant to where it is and what is going on. As time passes the virus will grow stronger and angrier, provoked by poor food choices, prescription drug use, and other antagonizing behaviors. Eventually, the virus will erupt and begin to stir up chaos for the unsuspecting masses.

Each virus and its various strains have undergone this rooting process. Epstein-Barr, which is now creating chaos for so many individuals unknown to science and research it started rooting in the late 1800s. It will still be a couple decades before HHV-7 explodes on the scene, but when it does, it will be far more problematic than the Epstein-Barr virus.

Fortunately, if you begin to implement healing practices in your life today, you do not have to fret about the effects HHV-7 might have in the future. Build up your body with the right supplements and healing foods, work to eradicate harmful foods and toxins from your life, and know that if you do come up against HHV-7, you will be thoroughly prepared for battle.

HSV-8 & the Cancer Connection

This virus creates a sarcoma, but doesn’t cause any other notable issues. The reason HSV-8 may surprise you is because it points to the fact that certain cancers are related to the herpes family. If particular herpes viruses begin to feed off of heavy metals, chemical fallout, harmful foods, and/or pharmaceutical drugs, cancers may develop.

HSV-9

Like HHV-7, HHV-9 is beginning the rooting process as well. HSV-9 is an odd virus, but will most likely not be too troublesome. Numerous offshoots will spawn from this virus. We can expect to see more signs of the virus roughly 30 to 40 years from now.

HHV-10

People are walking around with HHV-10 in their systems, but it is not causing too many issues at present. As this virus nestles in the liver, it may produce a minimal amount of spirochete byproduct. You may have been led to believe spirochetes are bacteria, but this is incorrect. The misunderstanding of these viral casings just further highlight how far behind medical science and medical research are when it comes to chronic and mystery illness.

HHV-11

At one time the undiscovered HHV-11 was an Epstein-Barr strain, but it eventually broke off and became its own virus. It’s not presently rooting and is generally inactive. HHV-11 may draw attention to itself in the far distant future, but for now it is not one to be concerned with.

HHV-12

This offshoot of the shingles virus is starting to cause some moderate trouble on its own and will likely become a more visible nuisance two decades from now. It is already triggering rashes in some individuals and will continue to create more and more rashing symptoms in a larger population as a new shingles virus as times goes on.

Shingles

Shingles, which falls within the herpes family, contains over thirty varieties, many of which are detailed in the “Shingles” chapter of my first book, Medical Medium, and the “Shingles Virus Revealed” radio show. The shingles fall within two categories— rashing and non-rashing. Various symptoms and conditions arise from the varieties within these categories including Bell’s palsy, trigeminal neuralgia, TMJ, burning mouth, burning tongue, vaginal burning, bursitis, blurry eyes, neck pain, frozen shoulder, and neuropathy.

Lyme Disease

Many people diagnosed with Lyme disease are suffering from 3, 4, 5 or more herpes viruses. These viruses can incorrectly trigger off certain labs and tests and leave people with inaccurate data and misinformed answers. The truth is, Lyme disease at its core is never bacterial or parasitical, it is always a viral issue. These viruses create the neurotoxins that trigger neurological issues that are associated with Lyme. If this information is unsettling or new to you, check out the “Lyme Disease” chapter in Medical Medium or check out “The Unknown Cause of Lyme Disease” radio show and try to keep an open mind so you have all healing opportunities in front of you.

Healing Herbs & Supplements

You may be wondering how to arm yourself against all of these herpes viruses. One simple way to start is by bringing zinc into your daily health protocol. A rampant, global zinc deficiency is one of the reasons the herpes family exploded onto the scene and became the issue it is today. Zinc acts as a powerful weapon against the herpes family, so replenishing your zinc reserves with a high-quality zinc sulfate supplement can be an incredibly protective measure. A blood test does not account for the possibility of a zinc deficiency in places such as your ganglia, nervous system, and liver, so do not rely on a blood test to determine whether you have sufficient zinc reserves. Bring zinc into your life and work with a practitioner to figure out a dosage that is right for you.

L Lysine is another weapon that can help fight the herpes family. When it comes to battling a herpes virus, taking only 500 mg of lysine a day might not be sufficient. If you’re fighting off Epstein-Barr or another aggravating herpes variety, a fairly generous amount of lysine may be necessary. That being said, It is important to discuss the exact dosage you plan on taking with a practitioner so that you can best support your specific health issues. If you aren’t struggling with a herpes virus, but want to help shield yourself from picking up one of the hundreds of possible strains, taking a smaller dose of lysine can be a protective step.

Other herbs and supplements to consider incorporating include B-12 with methylcobaalamin and adenosylcobalamin, 5-MTHF, lemon balm, and selenium. Licorice root can act like a glue to help prevent herpes viruses, such as Epstein-Barr, from feeding, reproducing, or moving locations.

Eyebright and echinacea can be great herbs for fighting a herpes virus. Periodically using goldenseal can be another great measure to put in place. Regularly brewing yourself a glass of thyme tea can be a supportive practice, and taking oregano oil or seasoning your meals with the fresh oregano herb on a daily basis can provide healing benefits as well.

Healing Foods

Bringing antiviral foods into your diet is an important part of healing from any herpes virus. All fruits and vegetables are antiviral. For that reason, try filling your diet with as many fresh fruits and veggies as you can! Many herbs and spices can provide antiviral support as well. As you enjoy these foods, you can be at peace knowing that none of the herpes viruses are being fed or strengthened by these life-giving foods. Try incorporating ginger, turmeric, spirulina, garlic, and onion into your meals. These foods can be incredibly supportive when regularly included in your diet. I discuss some of the best foods for herpes viruses in my book Life-Changing Foods.

Removing certain foods that can feed and strengthen herpes viruses is also essential. Consider eliminating eggs, dairy products, canola oil, and corn products from your diet to support healing.

When dealing with food in a restaurant setting, stick to eating healing cooked foods that are served nice and hot! In restaurants that serve animal products, cross contamination can often occur between raw animal products and other raw ingredients, such as salad greens or fresh, raw fruits and vegetables. If you want to avoid picking up a new bug, it is best to stick to clean, thoroughly cooked dishes when dining out.

Implementing just a few of these ideas can help ignite healing in your body. If you feel overwhelmed by all of the suggestions, just start by incorporating a few that speak to you.

A Story of Fighting Fatigue

When I was younger I worked as a caddy at a golf course. One day, I was assisting a husband and wife when all of a sudden Spirit told me that the wife was suffering from fatigue. I asked the wife about this and she was shocked! She was surprised a 12-year-old could know such a thing, and admitted that she had been suffering from mystery fatigue for a decade. She had seen numerous doctors, but was never given answers to help her heal. She had even been told she was crazy and was sent to a psychiatrist.

I revealed to her that her fatigue stemmed from Epstein-Barr, a virus in the herpes family. In response, she talked about having mono for a period of time as a child. We discussed the necessary steps she needed to take to heal and she began to implement the protocol. Within a year, the woman recovered from the virus and could begin to move on with her life. Do you or a loved one suffer from EBV-related fatigue? Hopefully this story will inspire you as you begin down your own healing path.

Moving Forward

If you’re suffering from Epstein-Barr and HSV-1, or have two different cold sore varieties as well as cytomegalovirus, know that you are not alone! Many people are fighting multiple herpes viruses and experiencing a host of aggravating symptoms. Instead of feeling hopeless or afraid, try to take simple steps towards healing by bringing in certain supplements and foods that aid your unique situation.

When someone is confused about their symptoms and conditions, and panicked and fearful about what to do, herpetic viruses tend to thrive. These viruses feed off fear, confusion, and chaos. Now that you have accurate information and healing ideas to choose from, you can face these nasty viruses from a place of empowerment and watch as these viruses begin to weaken and lose control. In the case of fighting any disease, herpes family viruses included, the correct knowledge is power!

Addictions Part 2

In the first radio show on addictions, I revealed the two foundational roots that play a role in any addiction. The first root is glucose deficiency. If you consume enough glucose from fresh fruits and vegetables, you're much less likely to develop addictions. And, if you're battling an addiction, reversing glucose deficiency can be a powerful step toward recovery.

The second foundational piece is adrenaline. Your own adrenaline can be highly addictive, and it usually plays a large part in any addiction, including to drugs, alcohol, unhealthy sugars, and even danger.

Whether your addiction is relatively minor or life-threatening, the sooner you understand it and put the following recovery protocols into practice, the easier it'll be to find freedom. I hope the knowledge I share will help if you're ever feeling lost or hopeless. You may also want to seek support or spiritual guidance from a counselor or mentor.

Collecting Tools

If you're struggling with a highly destructive addiction, every step you take toward recovery matters. Arming yourself with this information can give you a shield of protection as you fight to reclaim your freedom from whatever addiction you are up against. Implement all the tools you can to combat the addiction:

  • Use the information here and in Addictions Part 1 to understand the elements behind your addiction.
  • Make healing dietary changes.
  • Reach out to family and friends.
  • Find a counselor, support group, or rehabilitation center.

Chocolate as a Tool

It might be surprising, but chocolate can be a helpful tool for someone healing from certain addictions. That being said, some people have trouble tolerating chocolate, because even though it has some health benefits, it's also a neurotoxin. If you're really healthy, you may be fine indulging in a chocolate treat every so often. But it's best to avoid chocolate for the time being if you struggle with nervous system issues or neurological problems, including confusion, brain fog, neurological shakes and tremors, neurological aches and pains, tingles, numbness, migraines, neuropathy, fibromyalgia, dizziness, vertigo, ringing in the ears, or any of the symptoms described in the article, Healing Your Neurological System. My book, Thyroid Healing shares a detailed list of neurological symptoms and causes.

If you're working to break an opioid addiction, eating chocolate periodically may help prevent you from turning back to the destructive substance. When I was working with clients at an office twenty-five years ago, I kept a stack of high-quality, dark chocolate bars on hand. Spirit told me that, under the right circumstances, these chocolate bars could help save someone's life.

Around that time, a 19-year-old boy named Cole came into the office with his parents. Cole was struggling with a severe opioid addiction and had already been in and out of rehab multiple times. The addiction was destroying the lives of the whole family. Spirit immediately suggested Cole use chocolate as a weapon against his addiction. Cole was working with a doctor to wean off the drugs, and I suggested he eat a sizable portion of chocolate anytime the weaning process felt unbearable. I offered him a chunk of chocolate during the consultation, and he smiled and remarked on its tastiness. His parents were surprised to see a smile from their son, who they said hadn't smiled in years. The parents were also surprised at Cole's sudden optimism towards recovery as our session progressed. Using chocolate as a crutch during this trying time worked. Within three weeks, my client was clean, and he went on to live a drug-free life.

Salt Addiction

Do you know someone who can never seem to get enough salt? If someone's suffering from a sodium addiction, it's likely they're desperately in need of mineral salts for their adrenal glands and the neurotransmitters in their brain. This addiction can arise if someone's overtaxing their adrenals, which can leave their neurotransmitters craving the mineral salts that protect the adrenal glands.

Unlike refined salt, sea salt, or Himalayan salt, the mineral salts found in certain fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables can play a significant role in breaking an adrenaline addiction and revitalizing the adrenals. Celery juice, plus spinach and other leafy greens are just some of the foods that are rich in undiscovered varieties of sodium that deeply nourish the body. Although you don't have to cut Himalayan salt or high-quality sea salt out of your diet completely, use a moderate amount and make sure your diet is brimming with foods that are naturally rich in mineral salts, like the celery juice.

Supporting and protecting your adrenals is a critical step for anyone seeking to prevent or break an addiction. If you're working to heal from a salt addiction, incorporate adrenal snacks into your daily diet. Eating a small meal, such as an adrenal snack, every hour to hour and a half can be incredibly beneficial.

Anorexia & Bulimia

When mercury and other heavy metals interfere with neurotransmitters in certain parts of the brain, bulimia or anorexia can develop in certain individuals. If these heavy metals are removed through the heavy metal detox or if brain tissue develops in a particular way that bypasses the heavy metals, you might still struggle with an addiction to your own adrenaline that manifests as an eating disorder.

One of the reasons it can be so hard to heal bulimia is because of the adrenaline surge people experience before they purge. This adrenaline rush can be similar to a powerful drug in its euphoric quality. Someone struggling with anorexia may experience a surge of adrenaline when they look at food, especially if they've suffered abuse around food in the past. In this instance, the surging adrenaline acts similar to a drug, and the person may quickly lose their appetite.

This information on adrenaline and adrenaline addiction hasn't yet been discovered. I brought it to light in my books, Medical Medium, Life-Changing Foods, Thyroid Healing, Liver Rescue and Celery Juice, in this article and on my radio shows. While many people believe eating disorders stem from emotional or sexual abuse, it's important to understand that these horrible traumas are severe triggers that may cause someone to develop an eating disorder, but they are not the cause. It's usually a combination of toxic heavy metals in the brain and an addiction to the adrenaline that surges each time an eating disorder is acted on that causes people to continue struggling.

Sugar Addiction & The Role of Fat

Your brain and liver need the glucose from fruits and vegetables to survive and thrive. Unfortunately, some people turn to refined sugar-filled treats instead and wind up with an addiction to unhealthy sugars. People stay addicted to these unhealthy sugars partly because of the unhealthy fat most sugary treats contain. (Ice cream is one example).

Foods that are high in unhealthy fat don't allow the sugar to flood the places it's needed, including the cells, muscles, heart, brain, and liver. If you feel addicted to sweets and treats, you likely need to replenish the healthy glucose in your brain. If you continue to fill your body with unhealthy, sugary treats you'll never be satisfied, and you might even exacerbate the addiction.

If you swap your treats for healthy, glucose-rich foods, such as dates, apples, and raw honey, your brain will start to receive the kind of sugar it needs. Then, your addiction to the wrong kind of sugar will likely disappear. Carrying a bag of dates, dried apricots, or figs with you can help with conquering cravings that arise when you're out.

It's also important to avoid or limit the wrong kinds of fats. These fats—and even too much healthy fat—can halt the restoration of glycogen deposits in the brain and liver. I discuss this in detail in my book, Liver Rescue.

Omega 3s are important, but receiving them from the right sources is critical for proper glucose absorption in the body. There's misinformation that the brain is largely made of fat, but this is false. The brain is largely made out of carbohydrates, and it contains only micro deposits of fats. These micro deposits are made of omega 3s and other oils, many of which medical science and medical research have yet to discover.

You can get the omega 3s and all of the other micro fats you need from watermelon seeds, hemp seeds, butter leaf lettuce, blackberry seeds, sesame seeds, tahini, tomato seeds, and more, along with a plant-based EPA DHA. Turning to these foods can prevent you from losing glucose reserves in your brain that are so critical for freedom from addictions and to help protect you from Alzheimer's disease and other neurological problems. If you're trying to break any kind of addiction, keep the fats in your diet low—so the glucose can easily enter your cells—whether you're a meat eater, pescatarian, vegetarian, or vegan.

Addiction to Cigarettes

Although nicotine is an addictive drug, and that's partly why many people are hooked on cigarettes, there are a few other reasons it's challenging to break this addiction.

One reason is that you're likely smoking in part because of the adrenaline that floods your system when you're an active smoker. Before you even put a cigarette to your lips, the anticipation can cause adrenaline to rush through your body. The more time you wait in anticipation of the next cigarette, the more adrenaline flows through your system. Often when people quit smoking, their appetite appears to ramp up. This is largely because those cigarette-activated adrenaline surges finally begin to calm down.

Another reason people become addicted to smoking is it actually makes the smoker alkaline for a very brief moment while they're smoking. This may be shocking to learn, but it's a truth that has yet to be uncovered by science. As the tobacco in a cigarette turns from fresh tobacco to burnt tobacco, a chemical compound develops. Once the chemical ignites, it goes straight to the brain and gives you a brief alkaline hit that's far more addictive than the nicotine found in cigarettes. Unfortunately, following this short wave of alkalinity, your body becomes incredibly acidic. As a result, you're likely to crave another cigarette soon after in order to receive an additional alkalizing hit.

The Medical Medium Cigarette Pack Trick

This trick includes high-quality chocolate, which isn't always the best food choice but may come in handy for people who are working to quit smoking. Take two packs of cigarettes, empty one pack entirely, and fill the second pack with a smaller amount of cigarettes than you normally smoke. Break apart a high-quality chocolate bar, and fill the emptied pack with small pieces of chocolate. Whenever you'd take your usual cigarette break and you feel an adrenaline rush coming on as you ready yourself for a smoke, take a piece of chocolate out of the empty pack and pop one or two small pieces into your mouth. Don't chew or swallow them right away, instead leave them in your mouth until they melt completely. Because nicotine is aromatic, if you've put the chocolate pieces in the cigarette box ahead of time, the chocolate will have soaked up some of the nicotine.

During your next break, you can have a cigarette from your box of fewer cigarettes. Keep both packs on you throughout the day, and continue to cut down on cigarettes at a pace that feels manageable.

Walking Off Your Smoking Habit

A second trick for quitting is to smoke only when you're walking outside. Because you're walking, you'll likely take fewer drags of your cigarette, so you won't be getting as many addictive hits of nicotine. You'll take in more oxygen because you're walking, and you may even experience greater calm due to the gentle movement. The adrenaline flooding your body from the cigarette will also be better used when you're walking as opposed to when you stand and smoke. Also, because it's a little more challenging to walk and smoke versus stand or sit and smoke, you may be less inclined to pick up a cigarette as frequently.

In sum, use these tips to quit smoking:

The Spiritual Side of Addictions

Negative spiritual energy can play a role in addiction. While you're fighting to overcome an addiction, it can be invaluable to call on some of the angels for guidance and support. There's an entire chapter dedicated to angels that can support you in Medical Medium and Life-Changing Foods.

Oral Health Essentials

Taking proper care of your oral health is critical, but with so much conflicting and inaccurate information available, it can be confusing and overwhelming to know what’s truly helpful and what’s not. Some of today’s main oral health issues are discussed below along with some suggestions for reclaiming the health of your gums and teeth.

Mercury Fillings

In today’s world, it’s common knowledge that mercury fillings are not ideal. But contrary to popular belief, the best answer isn't necessarily to have them removed by your dentist. There’s some critical information you must know when dealing with mercury fillings that can help protect your health.

Firstly, unless a tooth with a mercury amalgam cracks, breaks or decays, it’s best to not remove your fillings. The mercury is contained and will be far less detrimental to your health if they’re left alone. If a filling is damaged by a tooth breaking or decaying, that’s when it is helpful to remove the amalgam. If you are someone who already struggles with a host of health issues, such as memory loss, heart palpitations, brain fog, deficiencies, a heavy viral or toxic load, sensitive nervous system and many more, it’s particularly important to leave them where they are so the removal doesn’t trigger even more sickness. It’s tragic to see people, who were already experiencing health issues, remove all of their fillings at once and then experience a collapse of their health and well-being. Thankfully, you now have the knowledge to prevent this from happening.

If you’re insistent that you want to remove your mercury amalgams or they’re broken and you have several of them, it’s important you do not remove them all at once. Instead, try to visit a well-equipped biological, holistic, or trusted conventional dentist and have them removed one at a time every month, every three months, or even every six months depending on your overall health. As a filling is removed, mercury in the amalgam can vaporize, enter the bloodstream, and weaken the immune system. Spacing out the removal process of each amalgam allows the immune system to recover from the release of the mercury and helps minimize the impact on your health. This is especially important if you already struggle with neurological symptoms, sensitivities, or illness.

The removal of these fillings and the subsequent vaporized mercury act as a trigger, and when the immune system is in a weakened state, viral and bacterial infections such as Epstein-Barr virus and streptococcus can easily take root and grow stronger by feeding on the mercury released into the bloodstream. Many people suffer from neurological symptoms and conditions such as severe anxiety, depression, tingles, numbness, brain fog, memory loss, fibromyalgia, neuropathy, MS, ringing in the ears, vertigo, dizziness, fatigue, and many other mystery symptoms after having their fillings removed all at once because of this. This process can also trigger lyme disease, which I discuss in more depth in my first book, Medical Medium. In my new book Thyroid Healing, I share a detailed list of neurological symptoms and exactly what causes them that’s important for everyone to understand.

If you’ve already removed your fillings all at once, do not be disheartened. You can still recover! It’s time to dive into the heavy metal detox I discuss in my book Medical Medium and in my Heavy Metal Detox blog post. It’s imperative to practice the heavy metal protocol while building up your immune system to help your body to restore. This is helpful even if you’ve had only one removed.

Root Canals

Conventional and alternative medical communities often blame root canals for countless mystery symptoms and illnesses people are experiencing. In truth, root canals are not to blame. Viruses, heavy metals, chemical exposure, MSG exposure, aspartame exposure, mold exposure— these agitators are the real reasons for symptoms and mystery illnesses. Root canals do have their issues, but when a cavity is at an advanced stage you either have to remove the tooth completely, or undergo a root canal procedure. Root canals can age, wear down and sometimes small amounts of bacteria can accumulate, but these tiny amounts of bacteria are not causing the major health issues people are experiencing. If you do have a severely infected root canal and abscessed tooth or gum, then removing the tooth could be a wise choice, otherwise leaving your teeth as is might be the best option.

Sometimes people get their root canals, and even perfectly normal teeth removed, because of jaw pain. In most cases, the jaw pain and trigeminal nerve pain remains even after the removal. That’s because the pain is not connected to teeth issues, but is caused one of the many varieties of the shingles virus. I discuss the issues this virus causes in my book Medical Medium

Instead of getting a root canal, another option is an implant. Unfortunately, there are drawbacks to implants, and a root canal surgery still might be the better choice. Although the titanium used in implants is typically not as toxic for the body as other metals, some people are still very sensitive and can’t handle the interaction well. That’s why I would usually suggest choosing a root canal over an implant.

Instead of opting for a root canal or implant, some people choose to play it safe and just have the teeth removed. Living without several teeth is an option that can work best for some people.

Receding gums

There are a number of reasons people struggle with receding gums, but fortunately there are many ways to help prevent further gum recession.

Compromised gut and intestinal health is one reason people struggle with receding gums. When the stomach loses most of its hydrochloric acid, toxic acids takeover and while you are sleeping, these bad acids come up from the stomach and destroy the gums, causing them to recede. Low hydrochloric acid is extremely common today. The best way to restore hydrochloric acid is to drink 16oz of straight celery juice daily on an empty stomach.

A second issue that impacts gum health occurs when your body is unable to break down the food that you eat and it rots in the gut. This rotting food produces ammonia which rises into the mouth and eats away at the gums and teeth.

Lastly, poor food choices can lead to gum recession. Cutting out or drastically minimizing your coffee and processed food intake can help curb gum and teeth problems you may be experiencing. It’s also important to remove the damaging foods I list in my books, Medical Medium and Life-Changing Foods.

Is Fruit Bad for You?

This is one of the greatest and most detrimental misconceptions of our time! No, fruit is definitely not bad for you! You do not have to fear fruit. Fruit does not feed bacteria, it kills it. Fruit, rich in antioxidants and minerals, can stave off disease in the mouth while allowing your gums time to heal. Biting into raw fruit massages the gums and delivers oxygen. Dentists are absolutely correct about staying away from candy and processed sugars, but an abundance of fruit in your diet will only benefit you and your dental health.

Dental Health Questions & Answers

Q: Can a broken filling contribute to a thyroid disorder?

A: No, broken fillings do not contribute to a thyroid disorder. A root canal, gum disease or any other dental issue is not responsible for a thyroid issue. All thyroid problems stem from the Epstein-Barr virus. I explain this in great detail in my new book Thyroid Healing

Q: Is charcoal powder for teeth safe to use?

A: Yes, charcoal powder is safe to use on your teeth, but do not swallow it. Make sure to spit it out and rinse well.

Q: Are dental issues related to the Epstein-Barr virus?

A: In some ways dental issues may be connected. An example of this is when a handful of dental amalgams are removed all at once and the vaporized mercury from that procedure enters the bloodstream and significantly weakens the immune system. At that point, a pre-existing underlying Epstein-Barr virus infection can grow stronger and cause new symptoms or worsen existing symptoms. Fortunately, there are many healing measures you can take to overpower Epstein-Barr, which I discuss in my books, Medical Medium and Life-Changing Foods, and in my radio show called “Epstein-Barr Virus Revealed.

Q: Are tooth issues related to lyme disease?

A: Similar to Epstein-Barr’s relationship to dental issues, viruses that cause lyme symptoms might flare up and overwhelm the system if several dental amalgams are removed due to mercury triggering any underlying issues you already have. Other than that, tooth issues and lyme disease are not related.

Taking Care of Your Gums and Teeth

Using an electric toothbrush is great for dental health. Two great electric toothbrush brands to checkout are Oral-B and Phillips Sonicare. The Hydro Floss Oral Irrigator is another great device that allows oxygen to reach the gums.

Nature’s Answer has a line of products including Perio-Brite Mouthwash, Perio-Brite Toothpaste, PerioRub for gum and tooth discomfort, and PerioCleanse oral cleansing concentrate which can be used with the Hydro Floss oral irrigator for maximum results. Lucky Toothpaste is another good product that not only remineralizes the teeth and gums, but also rebuilds enamel. This organic Brushing Rinse is a wonderful addition to your oral health routine. If you have advanced dental issues or want some other high-quality oral care product options, Living Libations produces very high quality oral health products including a great toothpaste, tooth powder, gum gel, enamelizer, gum drops, and tooth serum. All these product recommendations and more can be found on the personal care recommendations page on the Medical Medium website.

Healing Supplements

Spirulina is an incredible supplement that will help pull heavy metals like mercury out of the intestinal tract, while also remineralizing teeth and gums. It will not pull mercury out of any silver fillings you might have, it will only draw out the mercury that’s been creating havoc in your system for years. Sovereign silver helps fight against bacterial issues and is an overall excellent support for the gums and teeth. Check out Micro-C for a great source of vitamin C, which is incredible for both gums and teeth. If a dentist indicates you may have a low-grade infection, increasing the amount of Vitamin C you are taking can be very beneficial. Coenzyme Q10 and a probiotic are two other supportive supplements. A helpful herbal tea to try out is peppermint.

Healing Foods

Aloe vera helps prevent gum recession and tooth decay. On my blog, there are instructions on how to prepare aloe water and the incredible benefits of adding this into your diet. Papaya, like aloe vera, helps fight back against ammonia in the gut. And like celery juice, it helps raise your hydrochloric acid while protecting the teeth and gums. Radishes, apples, leafy greens, celery, onions, scallions, chives, cucumbers, sesame seeds, tahini, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, ginger, and garlic can all support your oral health as well.

Moving Forward

For many people struggling with mystery symptoms or illness, visiting the dentist can be challenging, and recovering from a visit may take time and self-compassion. Space out your visits and recognize that a visit to the dentist won’t always be such a difficult task as your body begins to soak up the healing protocols you put into place. With time and consistency, your dental health and overall well-being can grow vibrant once again!

Addictions Part 1

Do you have a loved one who has struggled with addiction, or have you struggled with an addiction yourself? Addictions can be one of the hardest battles we fight in a lifetime. One of the most difficult parts is trying to understand what provokes th addiction and how we find ourselves trapped in a place of suffering, time and time again. This article will provide you with some answers and encouragement for healing.

Roots of Addiction

You might be surprised to learn that there are two different deep roots behind addictions: adrenaline surge dependency and glucose deficiency. Other factors can certainly play a part too, including life stressors, immense pressure, and abuse. Nonetheless, adrenaline dependency and glucose deficiency - or a combination of the two - are nearly always involved. This is unknown to medical research and science. From these root issues stem countless possible addictions, including to alcohol, drugs, sex, food, diet soda, extreme sports, and more.

The other unknown reason people struggle with addiction is due to toxic heavy metals in the brain such as mercury, copper, and aluminum.

Glucose Depletion

To understand addictions, we must first understand how important glucose is for our bodies. Glucose is a sugar found in fruits, starchy vegetables, and raw honey. Every single cell in our body runs off glucose for fuel. The brain needs critical levels of glucose to function optimally.

When we're deprived of glucose, we'll become obsessed with getting it from a different source because it's critical for our survival. If you've ever found yourself desperate for a sugary treat, a chocolate bar, a glass of wine or any kind of white bread or pasta, that's your body longing for glucose from fruits and vegetables.

One of the main reasons addictions are so prevalent is because almost everyone is walking around with some level of insulin resistance due to too much fat in the diet. The more fat hanging around in the blood-stream, organs, digestive tract, and lymph fluid, the more insulin is needed to try to force sugar through and around the fat saturation so it can enter into the cells and the body can function. Trying to get life-sustaining glucose into organs, muscles, and the nervous system while meeting resistance from excess fat is the true, unknown meaning of the term insulin resistance. Find out more about this topic in Liver Rescue.

When glucose levels in our body and brain are depleted, we open the door to a multitude of addictions, such as processed sugar addiction and alcohol addiction, and we set ourselves up for the second root cause of addictions: adrenaline addiction.

Adrenaline Addiction

Glucose is so critical for our bodies that it needs to be consumed every one and a half to two hours (the adrenal snacks I share in Medical Medium are ideal). If no glucose is available, our adrenals begin pumping adrenaline into the body so we can function and get through the day. This adrenaline surge is commonly known as a “rush”. But these days, most of us are running on adrenaline all the time and we might not even recognize what's happening. Adrenaline is not only highly addictive, but it's also destructive in our bodies. It's not meant to be something our bodies rely on day in and day out. The stress and pressures of life, poor eating choices, and environmental toxins can all play a role in daily adrenaline surges.

Becoming hooked on the feeling of adrenaline (usually unconsciously) contributes to almost every addictive pattern, whether it's to drugs, extreme sports, anger, coffee, or anything else.

Glucose depletion and adrenaline addiction can also create symptoms of confusion, brain fog, and fatigue in young people. This can lead to medications being prescribed for these symptoms and for conditions such as ADHD. This is often what's happening with students who struggle - part of what these young people really need is more of the natural glucose and mineral salts their brains run on from fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables.

Food Addiction

As humans, it's critical that we eat, but many people experience pain, confusion, and suffering around food and eating issues. Every person has to plan out what to eat and when to eat, but it can be terribly confusing with all the misinformation out there.

If you struggle with food issues, know that you're not alone. Most people have some kind of issue with food. Some people eat too much, while others don't eat enough. Some people are consumed with worry about what to eat, while others forget to eat altogether.

It's true that many people use food to cope emotionally, but there's more to emotional eating than that. Our bodies are absolutely dependent on food to survive, so it's essential to look closely at our relationship to food, especially our relationship to glucose. Often what's really driving what we might call emotional eating is the body's desperate call for glucose. In times of stress and emotion, that need is greater because the body uses more glucose to combat the adrenaline surges that occur when we face heartbreak, betrayal, struggles, confrontation in the workplace, and everyday worries, pressures, and concerns.

The Right Kind of Sugar

If you continuously grab for the wrong sugars, including alcohol, candy, cakes, sodas and almost all packaged foods, you're likely deficient in the right kind of glucose in your brain and other vital organs. Because of this, you can become addicted to the wrong kind of sugar. When you crave the wrong sugars, what your body is actually looking for - and desperately needs - is the natural sugars in fresh fruits and starchy vegetables. The healing glucose these foods contain help the body in countless ways, including by supporting neurotransmitters and helping stave off addictions.

No-Sugar Diets

It's best to stay away from high-fat, no-sugar diets. Your body is made to run on glucose, so if you attempt to stay away from natural sugars, you may wind up with an adrenaline addiction as the adrenaline compensates for the lack of glucose. Running off adrenaline may cause some desired weight loss initially, but over time, the corrosive adrenaline rushing through your body can burn out your adrenals and create and worsen other serious health conditions. Consequently, you may experience adrenal fatigue five to ten years after you attempt a longer-term, low-carbohydrate diet. If you are concerned about eating fruit, read my Fruit Fear article.

Avoiding the Adrenaline Rush

If you try to stay away from refined, unhealthy sugars but don't replace those sugars with natural sugars from fruits and starchy vegetables, eventually adrenaline will begin to flood your system every time you see your favorite sweet treat or glass of wine. You may notice yourself feeling excited or internally shaking, which are signs of an adrenaline rush. Flood your system with healing natural sugars and consume some glucose every one to two hours to prevent these adrenaline surges from ravaging the body.

Your adrenals will race in anticipation of whatever you're addicted to. That means you can become euphoric from the adrenaline coursing through your veins even before you take a sip of soda, binge eat, have a drink of alcohol, or use a drug. It's challenging to break an addiction cycle once it begins. That's why it's so important to supply your body with ample sugars from fresh fruits and veggies.

When you're healing any kind of food addiction, it's important to incorporate leafy greens daily, especially spinach and maché. If you want to stop an addiction to chocolate, the answer is not to cut out all sugars. Instead, bring in glucose-rich foods and fruits that will help your brain and body thrive, including dates, melons, mangos, bananas.

Alcohol Addiction

If you struggle with an alcohol addiction, your brain is likely desperate for glucose. Although the methyl-sugar in alcohol can quickly get to the brain, it can also be incredibly harmful. Unlike the healing glucose in fruits and starchy vegetables, the methyl-sugar found in alcohol can pickle the brain over time, like cucumbers in a jar of vinegar.

Instead of flooding your brain with alcohol's harmful methyl-sugar, start flooding your body with the natural glucose it craves. Start replacing your wine and vodka with the foods from which these drinks were derived - grapes and potatoes, or whichever fruits you like best. Bringing any high-glucose containing fruit into your diet is critical as you begin to break free from an alcohol addiction.

Many people who are addicted to alcohol aren't that interested in food and get most of their daily calories from alcohol. To break this addiction, it's important to routinely eat snacks and meals that are glucose-rich throughout each day. Dates, dried mango, and fresh papaya are especially helpful.

Drug Addiction

If you're addicted to any kind of drug, you're likely suffering from glucose deficiency and adrenaline addiction. If you're addicted to opiates, you may have an opiate addiction as well as an adrenaline addiction. Unfortunately, these two addictions can work together to wreak even greater havoc. An opiate addiction can be incredibly hard to break, because when a person uses, their adrenaline runs full throttle. An amphetamine addiction can be challenging to break because every time a person takes an amphetamine, their adrenals flood the body with adrenaline.

To break a drug addiction, it's important to bring in an abundance of mineral salts from vegetables, leafy greens, and certain fruits. One simple way to bring in mineral salts is drinking a daily glass of lemon water upon rising. Another critical piece is eating the right kind of glucose, including wild blueberries, apples, melons, mangoes, and papaya. Raw honey is another incredible food that's jam-packed with minerals.

It's also important to eat nourishing foods every hour or hour and a half when you're healing from a drug addiction. Celery and celery juice can be incredibly healing for all addictions, but especially drug addictions. Celery can also help with the detox process by purging the liver of toxins, and people with drug addictions usually have extremely overburdened livers. It's critical to understand how the liver works and what it needs, which I share in my book, Liver Rescue . Finding a good doctor, clinic or rehabilitation support is also important for drug addictions.

Breaking Addictions

When it comes to combating addiction, it's essential to fuel your body properly and understand the role of adrenaline. For example, bulimia is a challenging disorder to break because it's easy to become addicted to the tremendous amount of adrenaline that surges - and can create a euphoric feeling - when the contents of the stomach are forced up. (Other factors, including emotional hardship and toxic heavy metals in the brain can also play a role in bulimia).

Glucose & Mineral Salts

A glucose deficit in the brain may be the problem behind as much as 90% of addictions. That's why eating plenty of fruits, leafy greens and vegetables is critical for breaking any kind of addiction.

In addition to their glucose content, many fruits and vegetables contain a high mineral content, which feeds neurotransmitters and supports and restores brain health. Spinach and kale are loaded with healing mineral salts. Other mineral-rich fruits include cranberries, wild blueberries, blackberries, raspberries, apples, tomatoes, cucumbers, kiwis, dates, and melons.

To understand the importance of these natural mineral salts, let's take a look at the brain. The brain is filled with neurons. Each neuron has an electrical impulse that crosses from one side of the neuron to the other with the support of neurotransmitter chemicals. These electrical impulses need sodium, potassium, magnesium, and glucose to zip across the neurons successfully.

Unfortunately, when someone experiences severe stress or pressure, the neurotransmitter chemicals diminish, and the electrical impulses no longer have the support they need to cross the neurons. The electrical impulses may heat up as they try to cross the neurons, and they can begin to short circuit as a result. If enough electrical impulses short circuit in someone's brain, the person may become addicted to something like unhealthy foods because brain fog, confusion, and fatigue often result in excess hunger. In these moments, what your body actually needs is glucose and mineral salts, which can cool down the electrical impulses and support the neurotransmitter chemicals.

Heavy Metal Detox

Incorporating the heavy metal detox daily is another critical practice to include as toxic heavy metals can cause addictions. Clearing heavy metals out of the brain will allow neurotransmitters to rebuild and thrive. The Medical Medium Heavy Metal Detox Smoothie is a great way to get the five essential heavy metal detox foods in daily: cilantro, wild blueberries (or wild blueberry powder ), spirulina , barley grass juice powder and Atlantic dulse.

Healing Foods & Supplements

* GABA and 5HTP for neurotransmitter chemical support.

* Lemon balm for the nerves and brain.

* California poppy to help break any kind of addiction.

* Inositol or any supplement that contains inositol.

* Vitamin C supports the adrenals and heals nerves that have been injured by past adrenaline surges. Consider Micro-C.

* Passionflower and elderflower tea for the nervous system.

* B-12 with adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin is critical and a high-quality B-complex supplement can be incredibly supportive.

* Valerian can be really helpful, though it may not be the best for someone with a sensitive stomach or sensitive nerves.

* Ginger can help break addictions.

* Barley grass juice powder and spirulina are powerful foods that are loaded with minerals and can support neurotransmitters as well as remove heavy metals from the body and brain.

* Fennel is an incredible addiction-fighting food filled with mineral salts and vitamin C. If you're looking for a healing drink, try making fennel and celery juice.

* Wild blueberries, the most powerful food on the planet, can be an amazing addition to your diet as you heal.

Try working with a practitioner who can help determine which supplements and foods best support you.

Lowering your fat intake can also help stabilize your adrenals and neurotransmitters and allow your body to absorb more mineral- and glucose-rich foods. If you enjoy meat, try cutting your consumption in half. If you eat a high-fat, plant-based diet, try lowering the total amount of fat you consume.

Moving Forward

Being human isn't easy in our world, and dealing with an addiction can be a brutal battle. Know that you're not alone - many people struggle with addiction. There are reasons for addictions, and there are steps you can take to give your body the support, food and supplements it needs to overcome any addiction. I support you, and I believe in you.

Benefits of Silica

Silica is one of the foundational minerals our bodies' need most. While we commonly hear that calcium is the mineral that's most helpful for bone health, it's actually silica that's more critical.

Silica is unbeatable for its bone-building and bone-protecting properties. It can improve bone density, bone flexibility and if you suffer with any bone degeneration diseases and conditions with labels like osteoporosis, osteopenia, age-related bone loss, or other bone density issues, silica should be a part of your healing protocol. And if you've had an injury where you've broken or fractured a bone, dislocated a joint, or pulled a hamstring, silica is crucial for repair and recovery.

It's not just your bones that need silica. Your teeth do too, as do your joints, tendons, ligaments, and connective tissue in order to be strong and healthy. It helps to strengthen the connective tissues of the brain, nerve cells, and spinal cord thereby improving memory and helping to prevent memory loss. Silica also helps stabilize the pancreas's release of insulin!

If you want your nails, skin, and hair to be healthy, turn to silica. It's an essential beauty mineral that helps heal brittle bones, teeth, hair, and nails. It is also well known for its anti-aging, anti-wrinkle properties due to its ability to help form collagen and repair damaged or loose skin along with a clean diet, like the one I describe in my books Medical Medium and Life-Changing Foods.

There are many foods that are high in silica that are best included as often as possible. These foods include melons, cucumbers, artichokes, asparagus, dandelion, and leafy greens. There are also wonderful herbs that offer rich sources of silica including nettle leaf, horsetail, oatstraw, and rose hips. Of the herbs, nettle leaf is an especially potent source of silica and can be enjoyed as a daily tea or taken as a supplement.

Looking for a preferred silica supplement?

Along with the silica-rich foods shared above, there are some very helpful silica supplements that can offer additional, concentrated support. One or all of these products can be helpful for health.

1. Living Silica
Living silica as found in Orgono G5 Siliplant is one of the best forms of supplemental silica. It can be helpful for bone, skin, hair, teeth, tendon, ligament, and connective issues. Living silica is easily absorbed by the body.

Healing Your Neurological System

Do you struggle with chemical sensitivity, tingling in the hands and feet, tremors, brain fog, anxiety, or depression? These, and many more mystery symptoms, are connected to neurological and central nervous system issues.

The symptoms can be frustratingly inconsistent, and well-meaning practitioners can sometimes misread the signs your body is displaying and prescribe an ineffective protocol. No one should have to spend their time trying things that will never work! Below I will detail many of the mystery symptoms that signal neurological issues and the foods and supplements that offer you healing support.

Neurological Symptoms

Tics, twitches, and muscle spasms, which are all linked to spasming nerves, are signs of neurological issues. If you are experiencing dizziness or vertigo, your vagus nerve might be inflamed from neurotoxins from viruses. The vagus nerve runs from the brain, through the neck, past the throat, and down into the chest. Other symptoms linked to the vagus nerve include a fluttering heart, issues with swallowing, or trouble taking a deep breath.

Other neurological symptoms you might experience include: tingling or numbness in the hands or feet, buzzing, ringing, or humming in the ears, cold hands or feet, feelings of poor circulation, pains in the neck, or a strange gnawing sensation in the stomach.

Some people struggle with digesting food because they actually feel it move through the gut all the way to the colon. This particular symptom might wrongly be blamed on poor digestion, anxiety or IBS, but what you’re truly feeling is thousands of sensitive nerves coming from different places like the vagus nerve, phrenic nerve, and spine that connect to the intestinal tract, stomach, and colon. So, what appears to be a digestive issue is actually neurological.

Some might also experience neurological fatigue, which is different than adrenal fatigue. I recorded a radio show on this topic because it’s so important for the medical community and all of us to understand how it works and what’s causing it. If it feels like a struggle forcing your legs to walk, your head feels heavy and foggy, or just crawling out of bed and standing up seems impossible, then you might be experiencing neurological fatigue which can come with Epstein-Barr virus and is a serious type of chronic fatigue. Not all neurological fatigue is this severe however. Someone can experience milder symptoms from neurological fatigue also.

Sometimes the label ‘neuropathy’ will be given when a practitioner is not exactly sure what is wrong, but knows it’s related to nerve issues. Doctors frequently diagnose patients with diabetic neuropathy, which I discuss in my radio show on diabetes, but in actuality, more people without diabetes have diabetic neuropathy and the many symptoms that go along with it. Neuropathy is not a complication of diabetes, it’s a result of the shingles virus inflaming the nerves of extremities like the feet. I have called this condition Neuralgic Shingles and shared the truth about it in my book Medical Medium. When someone is experiencing nerve problems in the form of gum pain, jaw pain, or strange sensations, they might be diagnosed with neuralgia, which is also caused by the shingles virus.

A huge host of neurological problems are caused by Epstein-Barr, shingles and its many strains that have yet to even be discovered. Whether you have Epstein-Barr causing fibromyalgia or shingles causing neuralgia, your goal moving forward is to restore the nervous system. It’s about doing everything in your power to strengthen and fortify it, and this can be done!

Causes of Neurological Symptoms

There are some specific causes that can create a sensitive, weakened nervous system. The first is neurotoxins. Viruses such as Epstein-Barr, shingles, HHV-6, and others release neurotoxins which can cause a host of different sensitivities, symptoms and conditions connected to the nervous system. If any underlying viral issues are not addressed, your nervous system can become hypersensitive.

Toxic heavy metals are a second cause. Mercury is extremely harmful and other metals such as aluminum, lead, arsenic, copper, and nickel wreak havoc as well. An alloy of these metals in the brain can oxidize over time, short circuiting neurotransmitters as they run through the neurons. Imagine the neuron is like a stream and the neurotransmitters are like the living water rushing through. Heavy metals are what block and destroy both the stream and the pulsing energy running through it. Heavy metals diminish neurotransmitter and neuron function, breakdown electrical impulses, and can cause seizures if present in the brain and nervous system for extended periods of time. You can learn more about toxic heavy metals here

You must stay vigilant to avoid the third cause, MSG. It’s found in many packaged food items these days, even seemingly healthy ones, and hidden behind terms like “natural flavors,” “citric acid,” and “vanilla flavor.” It can even be found in protein shakes and natural herbal teas! MSG eats away at your brain, creates lesions, and breaks down your nervous system, worsening neurological problems.

Chemical sensitivities can also occur when chemicals interact with an already weak, sensitive central nervous system. Symptoms of a sensitive central nervous system might include forgetfulness, word misplacement, bafflement for no reason, confusion, feeling easily rattled or puzzled, brain fog, disorientation, or a feeling of disconnection. Anyone who experiences anxiety or depression has a sensitive central nervous system. Exposure to toxic chemicals can strengthen these symptoms and create new symptoms for someone who is already very sensitive.

A few more causes are aspartame, which severely damages the neurological system and can even cause seizures in certain people. Mold can be a serious trigger as well. Mold doesn't cause neurological issues but can be a trigger to another underlying cause. Stress can also be a trigger and have a serious negative impact on the central nervous system because of the corrosive adrenaline released when we are under stress.

Each person has their own causes that create neurological symptoms. You can empower yourself with the information provided here and in the Medical Medium book series and bring the guidance I share into your life consistently so you can restore the health of your nervous system.

Healing Foods

An important fact to know as you begin to heal is that your brain, central nervous system and nerves are fueled by glucose and mineral salts. That means your brain and nervous system run on naturally salty vegetables and the glucose from fruits! Do not be fooled by a current trend that inaccurately claims your brain runs on fat. The truth is, to heal any neurological issues, you must provide an abundance of sugars and mineral salts to your system, not through corn syrup, cane sugar, and table salt, but through fresh fruits and vegetables.

Wild blueberries are an incredible food and can help restore brain tissue. Drinking straight celery juice is another powerhouse addition to include daily as described here. Spinach, romaine, green leaf lettuce, red leaf lettuce, butter lettuce, and mâche are also excellent healing foods that are loaded with mineral salts. You can add in olives, or seaweeds, such as dulse and nori. For glucose bring in more bananas, papayas, raspberries, blackberries, mangoes, apples, pears, dates, apricots, peaches, sweet potatoes, butternut squash, yams, or regular potatoes. You can graze on the Adrenal Snacks all day long and/or consider trying the 28-day Healing Cleanse in my book Medical Medium.

Healing Supplements and Teas

Some beneficial supplements include B-12 with adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin, B-complex, GABA, barley grass juice powder, and calcium magnesium. Certain herbal teas, such as nettle leaf tea, raspberry leaf tea, and lemon balm and lemon balm tea are great to drink as well. My preferred suppliers of these supplements, herbs and teas can be found here.

Rebuilding Your Central Nervous System

It takes time rebuild your central nervous system but never give up on your body’s incredible power to heal! Feeding your body glucose, mineral salts, the right supplements, and a huge dose of self-compassion can move you forward towards greater health and vitality for your nervous system, brain and body as a whole.
