Thyroid Healing Broth

Thyroid Healing Broth

This wonderfully nourishing and comforting healing broth contains a selection of powerhouse ingredients for the thyroid and other glands and organs of the body. Let's take a look at some of the healing properties of a few of them...

Parsley removes high levels of copper and aluminum, which feed Epstein-Barr virus and in turn cause skin problems. It also bolsters production of the thyroid hormone T3 by helping to feed and restore the thyroid.

Thyme is an incredible antiviral that’s integral to cleaning up every thyroid disease. Its nutritional compounds get into the thyroid, killing off viruses and allowing the thyroid to regain control of itself, while this valuable food also knocks down the viral load throughout the body, helping to relieve a multitude of symptoms.

Sweet potatoes help cleanse and detox the liver from viral byproduct and toxins. They also help nourish the skin and support the adrenal glands. In addition, they help reduce fibroids and cysts throughout the body.

Celery strengthens hydrochloric acid in the gut and helps the liver produce bile to break down food. It provides mineral salts that help support the central nervous system with powerful electrolytes while they stabilize and support the adrenal glands. Celery has the ability to cleanse the thyroid of viral toxins and also bolsters the production of the thyroid hormone T3.

Onions are fantastic for their sulfur content’s ability to confuse and knock down viruses while it nourishes the thyroid gland itself. As with cruciferous vegetables, that pungent quality is exactly what gives them their value. Onions are a potent antiviral.

Garlic is an antiviral and antibacterial that kills off virus cells. It also kills off strep allowing for fewer UTIs, sinus infections, and opportunities for SIBO. It helps flush toxic viral and bacterial waste out of the lymphatic system.

Turmeric helps restore thyroid tissue, allowing the thyroid to regenerate and restore. Works on addressing viral issues throughout the body, acting as an anti-inflammatory as it reduces your viral load.

Ginger helps with nutrient assimilation and relieves spasms. Loaded with its own signature variety of bioavailable vitamin C, ginger is also a powerful antiviral. One of ginger’s special qualities is its ability to bring the body out of a reactive state by soothing nerves and muscles. Ginger helps bring balance and homeostasis to the thyroid, lifting it up if it’s hypo and calming it down if it’s hyper.

Atlantic sea vegetables (especially dulse and kelp) contain iodine that is an antiseptic for the thyroid—when it soaks into the gland, it becomes one of the thyroid’s most powerful fighting mechanisms next to zinc. Luckily, dulse and other sea vegetables also contain some zinc. These two precious minerals at work together can stop a viral infection in the thyroid, bringing down thyroiditis (inflammation of the thyroid) in the process. Sea vegetables also help protect the thyroid from radiation’s effects, remove radiation from the thyroid, and prevent thyroid cancer.

Ingredients

1 cup finely chopped parsley
4 sprigs of thyme
2 sweet potatoes, cubed
2 celery stalks, diced
2 onions, diced
6 garlic cloves
1 inch turmeric root, minced
1 inch ginger root, minced
2 tablespoons dulse flakes
1 tablespoon kelp powder
8 cups water

Directions

Place the sweet potatoes, celery, onions, garlic, turmeric, parsley, thyme sprigs, dulse flakes, and kelp powder into a large pot along with the water. Bring the broth to a boil and then reduce the heat to a low simmer. Simmer the broth for one hour. Strain and enjoy as a healing, restorative broth that can be sipped throughout the day.

Tips

* This recipe may also be enjoyed as a chunky vegetable soup by leaving the vegetables in the broth.

* Alternatively, you can make a simple purée out of this recipe. Use an immersion blender to purée the vegetables smooth or transfer in small batches to a standing blender. Make sure to leave a vent for steam to escape through the top of the standing blender!

* You’re welcome to make a large batch of this soup and freeze the leftovers to use throughout the week. Try freezing the broth in an ice cube tray for easy thawing later.

* If you’d like to make this soup a little more decadent to share with company, you can add a pinch of salt and a little splash of coconut oil or coconut milk into each individual bowl just before serving.
