Sweet Chili Broccoli

This Sweet Chili Broccoli makes a perfect side dish. Coated in a spicy-sweet sauce, it’s a great way to get some extra produce into your diet, and it works not only for broccoli but also for other vegetables of your choice, such as cauliflower, asparagus, or brussels sprouts.

Broccoli is an all-purpose multivitamin for the body, plus it contains bioavailable trace minerals and other nutrients that enhance all body systems, including the entire immune system. Nature made broccoli in this way, with a balance that can’t be matched, to offer a little something for every organ, gland, bone, nerve, and more in the body.

This recipe comes from Brain Saver Protocols, Cleanses & Recipes, the companion book to Medical Medium Brain Saver. These two essential books about our most complex organ—the brain—dive deep into why people all over the world are suffering with mental health and brain-related symptoms and conditions. Brain Saver unveils the why behind more than 100 brain- and nervous system–related symptoms, diseases, and disorders; Brain Saver Protocols, Cleanses & Recipes reveals the truth about how to heal in even more detail (including cleanses, recipes, supplement protocols, and so much more).

Sweet Chili Broccoli

  • 1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets

  • 2 tbsps tomato paste
  • ½ cup orange juice
  • ¼ cup raw honey
  • ¼ cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 1 tbsp chopped ripe hot peppers of choice
  • 1 tbsp onion powder
  • 2 tsps finely grated fresh ginger
  • 2 garlic cloves, finely grated
  • ½ tsp cayenne
  • ½ tsp Atlantic dulse flakes
  • 2 tsps arrowroot powder or potato starch

Add 3 inches of water to a medium pot and insert a steaming basket. Add the broccoli, cover, and steam until bright green and tender, 5 to 8 minutes. Remove from the heat and set aside.

Whisk together all the sauce ingredients in a small saucepan. Place on medium-high heat and cook, stirring often, until thick. Stir in the broccoli and remove from the heat. Serve immediately.

  • Look for a tomato paste that contains only tomatoes and no other ingredients, such as salt or citric acid.
  • Depending on which variety of hot pepper you choose, you will need to adjust how much you use according to your tastes.
