Creamsicle Smoothie

This smoothie brings a healthy spin on the classic creamsicle. It's thick, creamy, refreshing, sweet and gives a bright pop of tangy flavor with the orange.

Oranges have been called a “perfect food” and contain an amazing array of healing vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytonutrients. They are high in vitamin C, vitamin A, B-complex vitamins, folate, beta carotene, lutein, and minerals such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and potassium. Oranges have been known to help prevent cancer, lower high blood pressure, fight off viral infections, relieve constipation, prevent kidney stones and macular degeneration. Oranges contain a significant amount of glutathione which is critical for healthy eye and lung function. Oranges are very good for respiratory problems such as asthma or bronchitis and cardiovascular issues such as hypertension and COPD.

Bananas are one of the most nutritional and healing fruits readily available today. They are 76% water and are packed with vitamins such as vitamins C and B6 and minerals such as potassium, copper, and manganese. This high water/nutrient ratio makes them a great electrolyte food perfect for busy moms, workout enthusiasts, and people on the go. Bananas are also an excellent “brain food” great for heavy thinkers and are known to help build strong muscles as well as strengthen the nervous system. 

The coconut water will provide deep hydration and nourishment to your cells. The vanilla gives a wonderful ice cream flavor and its calming effects on the central nervous system will help you move through any stress you are facing over the day.

Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

Ingredients:
2 frozen bananas
1 fresh banana
3 whole chopped oranges, peel and seeds removed*
1-2 cups coconut water
Seeds from 1/4 vanilla bean, or 1 tsp vanilla extract

*If you don't have a high-speed blender, you may prefer to try using 1 cup of fresh orange juice as the oranges may not blend smooth.

Directions:
Place coconut water in the blender. Blend with the oranges until smooth. Add the frozen and fresh bananas and vanilla and blend again until very smooth and creamy. If you use only fresh bananas instead of frozen the smoothie will still taste wonderful. It just won't be as creamy and dessert-like. Serve right away and enjoy!
