Every single person today has a liver that needs proper care. Your liver plays a fundamental and critical role in your health and in what your health will look like in 20 years, even if you don’t suffer with any symptoms or illnesses right now or you’ve been told your liver is in good working order. There’s more to understand about your what’s really happening inside the livers of everyone today and what your liver needs from you to protect your health in the years to come.
The liver is responsible for more than 2,000 chemical functions in the body (though science and research only believe it’s responsible for about 500). This highly intelligent, special organ works so hard for you, day in and day out. But your liver needs your help in order to do its many jobs, which ultimately keep you alive. Your liver needs the right foods, herbs and supplements to cleanse, detoxify and heal. And, very importantly, you need to know what not to do so you don’t make your liver’s job even harder. How Your Liver Works For You
In order to care for the liver, it’s important to understand how it works. There’s a highway of blood called the hepatic portal vein that rushes from your gastrointestinal tract into your liver. This blood vessel brings vitamins, minerals, nutrients, hormones, oxygen, hydration and, unfortunately, troublemakers too.
I talk in great detail about what I call the “Liver Troublemakers” in Liver Rescue. They’re hundreds of different toxins, pollutants, and pathogens like pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, prescription drugs, aluminum, lead, copper, mercury, viruses, bacteria and more. These are the toxins we’re surrounded by in our modern world and that we are even born into this world with (not because of genetics but because they are passed down from generation to generation through the family line). They’re what makes us sick. They’re what cause disease and chronic illness, including the conditions believed to be autoimmune diseases (learn more about the mistaken autoimmune theory in Thyroid Healing and Liver Rescue).
The liver is a master at sorting out the good and the bad. It takes the good stuff—the nutrients and other helpful natural compounds—and puts them where they need to be used in the liver. Your liver is incredibly smart. It knows all about the compounds that are in a food as well as how to store or distribute those elements.
Take the example of an apple. This incredible piece of fruit contains a living water that’s hydrating and nourishing for your liver and your entire body. The liver can take the special living water from that apple, compress it and store it until it needs to be used at a later date. Then when your body needs those elements or you are dehydrated, your liver can reactivate and rehydrate that living water and send it out into your bloodstream. This is all undiscovered information that medical science and research are unaware of. I want you to know how truly miraculous your liver is so you can take proper care of it. The liver’s ability to orchestrate everything that comes in from that hepatic portal vein keeps you in balance, and it keeps your body functioning. It’s not known the science and research yet, but your liver also has its very own immune system to help protect itself and in doing so protect you. Your liver also identifies the liver troublemakers I mentioned (for a full list and explanation of each, see Liver Rescue) and works to neutralize and detoxify them. Neutralizing is a process where the liver makes the toxin less harmful, so that if the toxin travels through the bloodstream and especially to the heart and brain, it won’t cause major problems.
The liver also holds onto some of the worst offenders and locks them away deep inside itself. It really doesn’t want certain toxins floating around your body and making their way to your heart or brain—these troublemakers are too dangerous. So they get stored away in deep pockets of the organ.
But we need our livers to be healthy in order to do all of this well. If the liver is too overwhelmed by toxins and poor food choices (now or in the past), and if it’s become sluggish or fatty or weak, it can’t do its job properly. And your health begins to suffer or worsen even more. Even if you don’t have any symptoms or conditions right now, it doesn’t mean they are not in the process of developing internally. As I shared before, nine out of ten people have a sluggish liver and soon enough it will be ten out of ten people for all the reasons I share in Liver Rescue, so it’s essential that everyone knows what their liver needs and how to curb and heal the symptoms and conditions that can result.
Cleaning House For a Fresh Start
It takes the right kind of cleanse to help flush out the toxins from your liver, and in doing so to lighten the liver’s load. What your liver needs to be healthy is oxygen, water, sugar and mineral salts. These elements, along with nutrients from fruits and vegetables, are what the organ craves. Interestingly, the liver can only take in the nutrients when they’re surrounded by sugar (glucose). Of course, I’m not talking about table sugar or corn syrup, I’m talking about the natural health-giving sugars in fruits, tomatoes, potatoes and squash.
People who are on no-fruit or low-carbohydrate diets are unknowingly starving their livers and doing themselves a real disservice. If a nutrient comes in but it isn’t bound by a sugar, your liver will let it roll on by. Sugar allows the liver to take in the nutrient. Sugar is the fuel that helps your liver break down fat too. This may surprise you given how popular and trendy high fat and high protein and low carb diets (whether they are plant based or animal based) are today. While these diets have some benefits in the respect that they take our processed and junk foods, these diets are still problematic. I have a whole chapter on this topic in Liver Rescue because it’s so critical to understand so you know how to take care of your health.
Your liver also needs natural sugars to keep cool. The liver is a naturally hot organ, but toxins and high protein, high fat diets make it hot in a toxic way. Glucose from fruits and carbohydrate-rich vegetables help it cool.
Your Liver’s Neighbor: The Gallbladder
The hot liver shoots a sludge of gunk, toxins, poisons and chemicals, along with cholesterol and bilirubin, into the gallbladder. The gallbladder is a naturally cooler organ, and its temperature is linked with the temperature of the liver. The hotter the liver gets, the cooler the gallbladder needs to get. When a too-hot liver leads to a very cool gallbladder, people experience symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats. These issues stem from the dynamic between the liver and the gallbladder.
When the hot gunk cools in the gallbladder, stones form. That’s how people get gallbladder stones. In Liver Rescue I talk about the foods that dissolve those stones and clear the toxins too.
Foods To Support Your Liver
Now that you know more about how the liver works, I want to share a few of the top foods, herbs and supplements that will help you cleanse, heal and take care of it. I cover many more in Liver Rescue, along with how they the help your liver and body, and also feature some delicious healing recipes that incorporate many of these special foods.
Apples provide an active living water that hydrates the liver and supports the liver’s ability to hydrate your body. Apples also starve bacteria, yeast and mold out of the intestinal tract and liver. In doing so they keep sludge out of the gallbladder. Apples can also dissolve gallstones. Eat one to three apples a day (or more) if you can.
Artichokes contain phytochemical compounds that inhibit the development of tumors and cysts in the liver. Artichokes also contain many chemical functions that help the liver neutralize toxins before they get to the brain or heart. They help the liver screen and filter your blood.
Asparagus is high in flavonoids and powerful anti-inflammatory compounds—they’re like a natural aspirin. They also expel and dislodge fat cells and other poisons. Asparagus cleanses, detoxifies and soothes the liver.
Bananas are antibacterial, anti-yeast, antifungal foods. The fructose in bananas provides a quick fuel for the liver—it’s one of the organ’s favorite food sources. Bananas also sooth the lining of the intestinal tract.
Berries are a rich medicine chest for the liver. Your liver contains a type of cell known as Kupffer cells, and wild blueberries especially contain the kinds of antioxidants those kuppfer cells need. Raspberries, blackberries and blueberries are all powerful healing foods for your liver.
Brussels sprouts are an ultimate liver cleansing food. You can eat them raw, steam them or even juice them. Brussels sprouts and other cruciferous vegetables have a special sulfur that expels poisons and pathogens from your liver.
Celery contains undiscovered subgroups of sodium that I call cluster salts. These cluster salts protect liver cell membranes. They strip the cells of viruses down and bind onto free floating poisons. Drinking sixteen ounces of pure celery juice with nothing added on an empty stomach every morning is a powerful way to cleanse your liver.
Cilantro binds onto heavy metals so you can safely eliminate them from your liver and body. Cilantro also contains phytochemical compounds that cling to other troublemakers, such as neurotoxins and dermatoxins, which end up in our livers. Cilantro is another liver cleanser.
Cranberries do many jobs for the liver. They cleanse the deep parts of the liver. The harsh fruit acid in cranberries kills pathogens. They also have a tremendous amount of vitamin C that steps the oxidation of cells.
Cucumbers are an ally for the liver. They provide a hydrating liver water just like apples. Cucumbers also cleanse the liver.
Dandelion greens trigger a squeezing action in the liver that helps it release toxins. .
Lemons and limes improve hydrochloric acid (HCL) production in the stomach. They also cleanse fatty livers and help dissolve gallstones.
Melons are an incredibly powerful cleansing food that also have the ability to hydrate the liver. It’s ideal to have melons early in the day and not after eating something heavy.
Peaches remove old deep-seated poisons, debris and putrefied food in your small intestinal tract, which helps your liver get better.
Oranges and tangerines provide a wealth of calcium and vitamin C that the liver can use since it’s combined with the glucose in the fruit.
Pitaya, which is also called dragon fruit is a liver rejuvenator. It cleanses poisons from the organ. You can often find this red-fleshed food in the freezer department.
Raw honey contains a combination of the sugars that the liver needs along with the minerals, vitamins and nutrients that restore the liver.
Spinach has mineral salts and nutrients that help the liver. It also helps the liver receive vitamin B12 better.
Tomatoes harness critical phytochemicals, micronutrients, vitamins and minerals that support the liver. The fruit acid in a tomato also helps the gallbladder eliminate some of the sludge that can sit in the bottom of the gallbladder. They also dissolve gallstones.
Wild blueberries have pigments that reverse damage to the liver.

There’s also specific supplements that are helpful for the liver to heal, cleanse and strengthen. When it comes to supplements there’s a huge range in quality and they’re not all created equal. 5-MTHF helps the liver receive B12.
Ashwagandha is good for the liver and it strengthens the adrenal glands.
Barley grass juice powder contains phytonutrients that feed an undernourished liver while allowing it to detoxify
B12 with adenosylcobalamin and methylcobalamin is critical for your liver and almost everyone is deficient in it. Even when blood tests show B12 levels are normal, you can still be deficient.
Burdock root is very medicinal for the liver and it purges it on a deep level. You can find burdock root in the grocery store and consider juicing it or making a tea with it.
Cat’s claw kills off pathogens and viruses that are in the liver.
CoQ10 is a great antioxidant for the liver.

Zinc plays a critical role in all 2,000 of the liver’s chemical functions.

When our bodies are carrying a heavy toxic load and then we’re eating in ways that add even more of a burden, things start to really break down. But, thankfully, our bodies can heal and recover if we give them the right support. Keep in mind that we are all unique individuals with a different toxic load. A Snapshot of the Medical Medium 28-Day Cleanse
The Medical Medium 28-Day Cleanse has helped millions of people across the globe improve their health. Again, Medical Medium gives much more detail, but here’s a snapshot of what it can look like. I hope you’ll give it a try.
A cleansing beverage before breakfast:
This can be lemon water (that is, lemon squeezed into a glass of water), straight celery juice (see the Medical Medium book for more on this miraculous drink I brought to the world that millions of people across the globe are now drinking every morning), barley grass juice powder mixed into water, cucumber juice, or coconut water with some spirulina in it.
Make a fruit smoothie, with a recipe such as three bananas, two dates, and a cup of wild blueberries along with some papaya, mango, pears or whatever else you like. Or you could do a green smoothie and include some spinach, kale, cilantro, a couple stocks of celery or a spoonful of barley grass juice powder. You could also use the Heavy Metal Detox smoothie recipe as your breakfast. The goal of this smoothie breakfast is to give your digestive tract a break so you can heal. Consider making a double batch so you can drink the smoothie again for a snack or for another meal if you’d like.
Make another fruit-based smoothie or drink the second serving of the one you made for breakfast. You have options here, and it’s important that you do not go hungry.
Make a salad with spinach, lettuce and cucumber as the base. Then add foods like papaya, grapes, oranges, grapefruit and mango, along with some orange juice or a small amount of avocado (or the dressing I share in Medical Medium). You could also choose to use a little bit guacamole with lime juice on top instead. You can add items like raw red cabbage, celery, arugula, baby kale, sprouts, scallions and raw cauliflower into your salad if you wish.
Choose some fruit, such as apples, pears, dates, celery sticks or even a spoonful of raw honey as a pickup.
The creamy raw spinach soup recipe I share in Medical Medium tastes great and will do wonders for your body. When this soup is eaten daily, I’ve seen it turn people’s health around—and especially improve skin and eye conditions—in in countless ways. This spinach soup is blended up so your body can easily digest and absorb all the amazing nutrients.
Snack on a piece of fruit, like an apple or a date.
However you work the cleanse, I want to be sure you do not go hungry. Sometimes when people are on a cleanse they end up hardly eating anything. That’s not healthy. That’s not the goal. In fact, eating to little hinders the progress you’ll make. Make sure you stock up with plenty of fruits and vegetables so you can stay satisfied and well fed during the entire cleanse.
More Ideas and Alternatives
There’s plenty of room for modifications on this cleanse. You don’t need to follow exact menus. You can swap out lunch and dinner by eating two salads. Or you can have a smoothie three times a day, eating one for lunch and dinner too. You can cycle through different salad greens, just be sure you’re eating lots of raw spinach every day (and don’t buy into the myth that raw spinach is unhealthy; on the contrary it’s a miracle food). Eating raw spinach is one of the best things you can do for yourself.
Try the spinach soup on cucumber noodles. Throw mangos, cucumber, cilantro, garlic and celery into a food processor and serve that on cucumber boats or cucumber noodles. Or, put apples, cauliflower and cabbage into a food processor and grind it up as another great detoxifying snack.
Some people get a little nervous about eating entirely raw foods. If you need to, feel free to add in a cooked option such as a steamed potato, which you could chop up and throw on a salad. Potatoes are really healing and are a great option. Another choice is to steam winter squash, zucchini, cauliflower, broccoli or asparagus and put that on your dinner salad.
A Gift For You and Your Body
As a recap, the 28-Day Cleanse is incredibly powerful. It will help you clean and clear your liver from the buildup of viruses, bacteria, toxic heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, petrochemicals and everyday chemicals like perfume and conventional household cleaning products. Millions of Americans are struggling with weight gain and yet what’s really behind this pervasive issue is still unknown in conventional medical and alternative health communities. Almost exclusively, you’ll hear weight gain blamed on slow metabolism, overeating, too many carbohydrates, or a lack of exercise. These are common theories but they’re just that: theories. They aren’t the real reason there’s an epidemic of mystery weight gain across the globe.
Despite the theories and promises of trendy fad diets everywhere you look, it’s the liver that holds the answers to your questions about mystery weight gain. It is not as straightforward as burning more calories than we consume. Many times, people are following a trendy diet and exercising regularly and are still gaining weight. It’s critical to have great compassion for those who are struggling with their weight and to understand what’s really going on so we can help end the shame and judgement many overweight people experience.
The True Cause of Mystery Weight Gain
If you’re gaining weight, it means your liver is sluggish. While two other factors, the thyroid and the adrenals, can often be involved, weight gain is really about what your liver is up against.
When someone can eat all the junk food she or he wants and not gain an ounce, it’s because they have a liver that hasn’t yet hit its fat-storing or poison-storing limitation and therefore functions at a faster pace. That doesn’t mean their liver isn’t overburdened or overstressed. You could be thin and still have a liver illness developing or a liver complication that’s causing or will eventually cause symptoms.
What could be overburdening the liver you might ask? Liver Troublemakers. That’s the name I have given to the hundreds of different toxins, pathogens and pollutants we have in our livers. We have all been exposed to many of them over our lifetimes and even before we were born we inherited them in the womb because they’re passed down from generation to generation in our family lines. Even the healthiest babies are born with livers that aren’t functioning at 100% because of these Liver Troublemakers (unfortunately it’s more like 70% at most.) Ideally, the liver would be strong and uncompromised enough to process fats, toxins, and hormones with ease, neutralizing and getting rid of the toxins altogether while only holding on to high-quality fats and hormones that could be useful to your body later. The reality is that for most people, the liver simply has too much to do and the liver can’t process fat as well as it’s meant to, so fat cells begin to collect in it at a more rapid rate. The liver becomes so congested internally that fat builds around the outside of it, with pre-fatty and then fatty liver developing. Fat cells then begin to accumulate in the intestinal tract, and eventually, the heart and arteries get saturated. Weight starts to cling on around the waist.
This is just one side of mystery weight gain. There’s a great deal more to understand that I cover in Liver Rescue so you have a complete picture of what is happening when you’re gaining unwanted weight.
The Adrenal Connection
One of the reasons that the liver begins to breakdown is an influx of adrenaline in the bloodstream. As life get busier and more stressful, adrenaline is pumped through the body in increasing quantities. No longer is this an issue solely restricted to mid or late adulthood with the many responsibilities and stresses this time of life holds. Students are becoming burnt out earlier on in their college careers and are taking a year off or dropping out of school completely. Even medical students are choosing to forgo residencies due to increasingly high levels of stress.
The reason that stress and adrenaline are so toxic is that they cause the liver to become overburdened. Add to that the high-protein and high-fat diets that are highly popular and normal today and the liver is put into further distress. Whether you’re plant based or love animal foods, high-protein diets (which are also inherently high in fat), are problematic for the liver. No matter what the fat source is—animal protein, soy, nuts, avocados, oil—too much of it burdens the liver. The ketogenic diet is especially problematic. Why? When you eat a high-protein and high-fat diet, your adrenals flood adrenaline into your bloodstream to help your liver disperse fats. Your liver needs this help because bile, whose job it is to breakdown fats, is weakened when your liver is under stress. If your adrenals do not respond with aid, excess fat in the bloodstream can lead to stroke or heart attack. This extra adrenaline, while corrosive and damaging, is your body’s way of protecting your life.
Healing the Liver

For those who have already been applying the information I share in Liver Rescue and my other books, rescuing the liver takes time so do not be discouraged. This means that weight gain can continue for a period when you’re doing the right things because the liver was already under such distress that it needs time to adjust and heal before the weight can start to leave.
Additionally, when we have viruses, bacteria, toxic heavy metals like copper, aluminum, or mercury, and other Liver Troublemakers sitting in our livers, recovery time increases. This is due to the fact that, when our livers are inundated with fats and our bile is weakened, viruses and bacteria take advantage of this dip in our immune systems and strengthen (you can read Liver Rescue or any of my books to understand why you might have these pathogens in your liver). If you suffered from acne as a teenager, for instance, and continue to see occasional outbreaks when you are sick or around your cycle, this is because acne is caused by the strep bacteria, which continues to sit in the liver long term producing more symptoms later in life. The same is true for cold sores and HHV. Other viruses, like Epstein-Barr (which has over 60 undiscovered strains), are also rampant, biding time, and straining the liver. All of these factors plus more I discuss in Liver Rescue play a part in the condition of your liver and the symptoms and illnesses you have now or could have in the future.
Our job, then, is to take care of our livers in the way they need on a daily basis. Then you will be healing every day, even when you can’t yet see or feel it. This includes limiting fat intake, whether it’s from plant or animal sources, to give your liver a break so it can work on other important roles aside from processing fats. It also includes eating the healthy critical clean carbohydrates I discuss in detail in Liver Rescue that our livers need to replenish vital glycogen storage and heal and prevent countless conditions. It’s so important to understand how your body works and what it needs from you so you can protect yourself and your loved ones now and in the future. Watching your children suffer from various illnesses and symptoms is heartbreaking. What’s even more difficult is not getting the answers you need to help your child heal. There are many health conditions that infants and small children suffer with that remain a mystery to medical science and research, including acid reflux and conditions like jaundice and Pediatric Autoimmune Neuropsychiatric Disorders (PANDAS). For moms and dads, this is an incredibly frustrating and disheartening process.
In many cases, young children’s and babies’ health symptoms and conditions are blamed on genetics or labelled autoimmune diseases. As I explain in Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease, neither of these are true and both prevent true healing for children. It’s critical if you’re a parent, grandparent, or intend to become a parent in the future that you understand what is really behind common illnesses babies and children suffer with. Because without the truth, the unknown underlying causes for their symptoms will create more health problems for your children later in life. The information I share in Liver Rescue is there for you so you know what’s really going on in your child’s body and how you can help them heal.
One common misconception is that babies are born with a clean slate when it comes to their body and health. That they are born with organs like the liver fully functioning and in good working order. Unfortunately, this isn’t the case at this point on our earth. No one is born with a liver that’s operating at 100% because toxins and pathogens are passed down from generations long before us, and these toxins affect infants in utero. This is one of the reasons a baby can experience symptoms upon birth, soon after birth or in the first few years of their life. Plus, early standard medical treatments for babies can fill newborns’ livers with what I call “Liver Troublemakers”. I list hundreds of these Liver Troublemakers in Liver Rescue so you can get a full picture of why even our children’s livers are under duress today.
What this means is that the average healthy person today is born with a liver that is functioning at about 70% capacity—best-case scenario. For infants under intense stress during pregnancy, for various reasons, this percentage is lower. As we grow into adulthood, this number continues to decrease. This reduced liver function can cause bloating, acid reflux, jaundice, PANDAS, and many other conditions that pediatricians prescribe medication for without knowing or addressing the underlying problem because they aren’t aware of what’s really causing it.
There are many theories circulating in the medical community as to why babies develop acid reflux or bloating. One belief is that it’s because of the mother’s breast milk, which isn’t true. Another common theory is that a baby’s intestinal tract has not developed properly or coiled correctly, causing stress on the intestines. Another is that the intestinal tract is so soft and so pliable that sitting at a certain angle puts pressure on the duodenum. Doctors say that this intestinal stress will eventually subside, and symptoms of GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease) do go away. But just because these symptoms clear does not mean that the root cause, a weak liver, has disappeared. Instead, the real cause, which I call Baby Liver, goes silent for a short while, until other conditions appear down the road. I explain this in-depth in Liver Rescue.
Moms and dads, what your pediatricians should be telling you is that your baby’s overburdened liver and gallbladder are behind acid reflux. The reason for this is that when an infant’s liver is weakened from ancestral toxins and pathogens (the Liver Troublemakers), it has to create more bile and hydrochloric acid than it’s meant to and designed to at this early stage of life. A baby’s liver is not meant to produce large levels of bile, nor is a baby’s stomach meant to produce high amounts of hydrochloric acid. Breast milk is made up mostly of sugar and water, not protein and fat. This high sugar and low protein and low fat composition requires very little bile production. (An unknown truth is that the brain is made out of glycogen and carbohydrates, not fats, which is why this sugar-water is so essential to a baby’s health!)
That said, what little bile and hydrochloric acid a baby does need to produce is still important. When a baby’s liver is weak from the start, it can create a digestive issue, because baby liver translates to bile underproduction and low hydrochloric acid. When a baby’s liver is sluggish or stagnant right from the start, bile and hydrochloric acid will diminish even more. What little fat and protein there are in breast milk, the baby will have a harder time digesting on a micro scale, resulting in those GERD-like symptoms that are a mystery to doctors.
When a child exhibits symptoms like yellow skin or yellow eyes, doctors immediately know that they are dealing with a problem in the liver. This is the one condition that medical science and research know is a liver problem. What they are not able to do, though, is connect the dots. Doctors assume that the baby’s liver cannot handle the work of creating and breaking down blood cells. In reality, the liver is trying to overcome a highly toxic load made up of those Liver Troublemakers I share in detail in Liver Rescue. In other words, the liver is sluggish, stagnant, toxic, compromised and overburdened. This is especially problematic given the over 2,000 chemical functions of the liver, over 75% of which are undiscovered by medical science and research. The toxicity and burden on the liver can set the stage for future symptoms and illnesses later in life if someone doesn’t know the truth about how to properly care for the liver and get the Liver troublemakers out safely.
In the case of PANDAS, doctors turn their attention to the bacteria streptococcus. While strep is often present in a child’s system, weakening the immune system, the real troublemakers behind PANDAS are the virus HHV-6 in combination with the toxic heavy metal mercury being present in the child’s system. Medical science and research are still unaware of the truth that viruses feed on toxic heavy metals (and other Liver Troublemakers) in the body. So in the case of PANDAS, HHV-6 is feeding on the mercury, which produces neurotoxins and internal dermatoxins that cause the symptoms associated with PANDAS such as OCD, spasms, acute attacks, and rashes. While it can be frustrating to visit the doctor’s office and receive no real answers, it is worth bringing these issues to your pediatrician’s attention. Brain fog is currently a mystery to medical science and research. Its true cause is not known and in many cases it is often misdiagnosed, leaving patients without the information they need to heal. Even alternative health communities tend to blame brain fog on the wrong cause. They often believe it’s caused by yeast or fungus in the gut, but this isn’t true. A friend of mine told me about the electrician at his office who is suffering from terrible intestinal issues, but has no brain fog. On the other hand, there are people who eat incredibly clean diets and don’t have noticeable digestive issues, and yet they do suffer from terrible brain fog. I’ve known countless people and heard many stories of people who have experienced the very same thing over the years. The gut is not what causes brain fog. It’s also not caused by the thyroid, which is another common belief in medical communities. Nor is it a condition to be taken lightly.
Sadly, this condition can be so extreme that it causes people to lose their jobs, drop out of school, or spend days in bed when they need to be looking after their family or other responsibilities. Brain fog is not just the result of anxiety or a late night out. Fatigue, anxiety, and depression can accompany brain fog, but they are not the cause. It is so much more than that and it is time to uncover what is really going on. To properly understand the causes of brain fog and how you can your loved ones can heal from it, it’s important to read Liver Rescue.
The root causes of brain fog can be traced to both the liver and the brain. There are many different “Liver Troublemakers” that sit in our livers. This is the name I have given to hundreds of toxins, chemicals, pollutants, pathogens, foods and more that I list in Liver Rescue, including where they come from, why they are problematic, and how to cleanse them from your body. Some of these troublemakers include viruses like Epstein-Barr, excess adrenaline from being in the almost constant fight or flight mode most of us experience every day with our busy lifestyles, and toxic heavy metals such as copper, mercury, aluminum, and more.
When viruses like Epstein-Barr are present in the liver they need to sustain themselves to survive. They do this by eating substances that they like. Medical science and research have yet to discover this truth that all viruses feed. They cannot exist on their own, and what they enjoy most are certain foods we eat and toxins we often have inside us, such as toxic heavy metals, pesticides, petrochemicals, and fungicides, to name just a few. And, just like us, when a virus feeds, it also has to eliminate. When viruses eat toxins and problematic foods, they will then excrete even more toxins into your body. I call these toxins excreted by viruses dermatoxins and neurotoxins.Again, medical science and research also aren’t aware of either of these yet. If you’ve heard of the word dermatoxin before, the world understand it as an external chemical or irritant to the skin. But these dermatoxins that com from viruses are internal dermatoxins. The neurotoxins leave the liver after viruses excrete them and travel the hepatic portal vein to the heart and up to the brain. Their next stop is neurons in the brain, where they can cloud up, interfere with, and short-circuit neurotransmitters. For a complete understanding if this process and what happens to the dermatoxins, you can read about it in-depth in Liver Rescue.
In order for our brain to function properly, and for thinking to happen naturally, we need clean neurotransmitter chemicals that can pick up neuroelectrical impulses sent out through the brain. But when the neurotoxins that came from viruses in the liver reach the brain, they can sit on neurons and burn out neurotransmitter chemicals, making the neurotransmitters dirty. And when an electrical impulse travels to a dirty neurotransmitter, it dampens it and shorts it out. Neurotransmitter chemicals dirtied by neurotoxins are a recipe for brain fog. This will take at least 50 years to uncover by medical science and research. These shorted-out neurotransmitter chemicals can also trigger anxiety, depression, and other symptoms and conditions.
Additionally, there’s another cause of brain fog. When toxic heavy metals like mercury and aluminum are already present in the brain, which is the case for almost everyone to some degree, they can oxidize and create a metallic run-off that saturates your brain tissue. Again, your electrical impulses are short circuited by dirty neurotransmitters. The important thing, though, is not to worry about which type of brain fog you might be suffering from, because the truth is, most people are suffering from both types. The best thing you can do is focus on the healing foods and supplements for brain fog that I share in Liver Rescue and excluding the foods and toxins I discuss that contribute to this issue.

Detoxing Your Liver
Now that you have some of the answers for what’s really behind brain fog, you can move forward with healing. By eating a diet that consists of a abundance of fresh fruits, leafy greens and vegetables, along with avoiding the foods I discuss in Liver Rescue, you can not begin detoxifying your liver , but also offer your adrenals and brain the support they need.
There are problematic foods—like eggs and dairy products—that feed viruses and other pathogens in the liver. That includes even grass-fed milk, cheese, and butter. Gluten is another offender. Gluten is a favored food of the Epstein-Barr virus and other viruses and bacteria. And remember that the more a virus eats, the more toxins it will eliminate, which will only worsen brain fog and other symptoms.
Leafy greens, fruits, and vegetables, on the other hand, will support the liver in ridding viruses and toxic heavy metals from the body. The Medical Medium Heavy Metal Detox is very important for anyone with brain fog. It is incredibly effective at cleaning out heavy metals from the liver and brain and other toxins and chemicals too. Kale, red lettuce, butter lettuce, cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower, apples, peaches, plums, melons, papaya, berries, mango, and a little avocado—these are some of the foods to incorporate into your diet if you suffer with brain fog or wish to help avoid it in the future. These food helps to kill off viruses like Epstein-Barr, remove toxins from the body, detoxify and support and liver and brain, and so much more.

Gut, weight and gallbladder issues are extremely common today and often someone can be suffering from problems in all three of these areas. There’s a reason for this: these health issues are all rooted in the liver. Surprised? You may have heard many different theories about the cause of gut, gallbladder and weight problems, but it’s unlikely you’ve ever heard the liver implicated. That’s because this information hasn’t yet been discovered by medical science and research. Let’s take a closer look at what is happening in the liver to create these issues.
When the liver is weakened, overburdened and sluggish, countless symptoms and conditions can arise, including gut, weight and gallbladder issues. What happens is that over time the liver literally heats up more and more because it’s overwhelmed by pathogens, toxins, adrenaline, and too much fat in the diet. There are hundreds of what I call “Liver Troublemakers” that can burden the liver. I address these in detail in Liver Rescue: Answers to Eczema, Psoriasis, Diabetes, Strep, Acne, Gout, Bloating, Gallstones, Adrenal Stress, Fatigue, Fatty Liver, Weight Issues, SIBO & Autoimmune Disease along with how you can bring healing to these health problems.
When the liver gets overheated, it can’t produce bile as well, so that means the bile can’t break down the fats you’re eating, whether they are healthy fats or unhealthy fats and from plant sources or animal sources. Since the bile isn’t doing its job, your hydrochloric acid (HLC) is required to do more work than it’s meant to be doing. (Science and research doesn’t know this yet, but HCL is actually made up from a combination of seven acids, not just one). HCL is how we break down protein, and it can also break down a little fat if needed. But it’s our bile that’s meant to be doing that job.
A Breach in the Gut’s Barrier
Since the bile is weakened, your gastric glands work hard to produce more HCL to take care of what the bile can’t do. But that overproduction means ultimately the HCL starts to burn out and weaken. And that’s bad news because your HCL is a first line of defense for your digestive tract.
When HCL isn’t as strong, pathogens like bacteria or viruses slip through it and can start to proliferate and grow in colonies in your gut. Also, your HCL can’t break down dietary fats as well (that’s not even supposed to be its primary job anyway), so these unprocessed fats get by and start to cling to parts of the intestinal tract and colon.
And guess what loves that fat? Everything that’s harmful to your body: bad microorganisms, fungus and bacteria, c-diff, streptococcus, staph, E. coli and so on. These pathogens grow and move into different parts of the body over time, and that leads to just about every condition under the sun. It also leads to autoimmune disease. Learn more about what’s really happening in autoimmune disease in my books Liver Rescue and Thyroid Healing, including the true undiscovered causes of hundreds of symptoms and illnesses that are not yet understood by medical science and research or have been given an inaccurate and misleading label.
These pathogens then flourish and people end up with any number of health problems and symptoms and possibly a diagnosis, for example of having small intestinal bacteria overgrowth (SIBO), which is actually from the streptococcus bacteria. Science and research doesn’t yet know that it’s streptococcus specifically that causes SIBO, and that it elevates in the gut, pours into the lymphatic system and then ends up nesting under the skin, causing acne. Streptococcus is the unknown cause of all kinds of other problems too, including urinary tract infections, candida overgrowth, sore throats, sinus pain and congestion, styes, and much more. Another example is when people are diagnosed with colitis—that’s actually an undiscovered strain of non-rashing shingles in the intestinal tract lining (there are over 30 varieties of shingles but medical science have only discovered one). It causes inflammation there in the colon. You can look in Liver Rescue for a list of diagnoses and then the steps to take to heal, including the foods to eat and supplement dosages to address each issue.
Science and research really doesn’t know a lot about the gut yet. We have surgeons who can cut things open and cut things out, but the inside of the intestinal tract is just not well understood. I share a lot of undiscovered information about the gut in Liver Rescue. I want to be sure you get the right direction and the answers you need to heal. There is so much that isn’t known by medical and health communities that it’s critical you empower yourself to become an expert on what’s really happening inside your body.
Stress is another hurdle for your health, your liver and your gut. Your adrenals pump out adrenaline when you’re under too much stress and dealing with the ups and downs of life. Waiting more than two to three hours to eat also triggers adrenaline to be released (you can read more about why this happens in Liver Rescue.) Your liver has to soak up all that adrenaline—another burden for this already overworked organ. The adrenaline also gets into the stomach, weakening the gastric glands that produce the HCL.
If you’re walking around with weak or low levels of HCL, you’re going to run into trouble with pathogens. Say you’re eating at a restaurant and the chef has active Epstein-Barr virus (as many people do). A drip of the chef’s sweat might fall onto your dish, and when you eat it, you also get that Epstein-Barr virus. If your liver is weak, your bile is weak, and then your HCL is weak, you won’t be able to fight off the virus. The virus will settle into your gut, where it proceeds to cause health problems. Or you open a door at your doctor’s office and pick up staph. It’s so easy to come across these things in everyday life, which makes it even more important to know how to protect and safeguard yourself so you are equipped to face the pathogens and stress in today’s world.
The bottom line is you want your HCL to be strong, you want your bile to be strong, you want your liver to be strong. That will stop disease from occurring in your gut, whether it’s SIBO, celiac, Crohn’s, colitis and everything else that happens in the intestinal tract—including colon cancer. It’s critical that you take care of your liver so you build up good bile and good HCL, and then everything gets stronger and healthier.
The Gallbladder Takes a Hit
The gallbladder is closely related to all of this, and to the liver’s health in particular. First, I do need to clear the record about liver stones. Learn the full truth about liver stones and other liver myths in Liver Rescue. The liver doesn’t produce stones at all (though the gallbladder does produce gallstones). For one, the liver is too hot to forge a stone. In addition, the bile ducts that come out of the liver are really narrow. A stone could never pass through those ducts—it would always get caught. Globally there would be millions of people needing surgery on their livers all the time. All this talk about liver flushes is simply not true, that’s just not how it works.
What happens is the liver is naturally a hotter organ in the body. But as it becomes increasingly toxic it gets hotter—it’s like pouring gasoline on a fire. The bilirubin and cholesterol in the liver mix with toxins like heavy metals; pesticides; everyday household chemicals, like plug-in air fresheners and conventional cleaning products; pharmaceuticals you use now, used years ago or are consuming through drinking water; smoke from cigarettes or bonfires or gas grills; fungicides or flame retardants on our clothing; alcohol; recreational drugs and much, much more.
We are actually harboring toxins and poisons that go all the way back to the Industrial Revolution—around the 1800s. The poisons from chemicals compounds and toxic heavy metals that people started using in the industrial revolution have been passed down from generation to generation. Some toxic heavy metals, such as mercury, are passed down for as many as 2,000 years.
We are born with these toxins inside of us. And then we collect more. We have all kinds of toxic ingredients that are in pharmaceuticals inside of our bodies. We have all consumed processed foods in our lifetime. We spray our lawns and parks and food with pesticides and herbicides and insecticides. These are more of the Liver Troublemakers I mentioned earlier.
All of this creates a sludge in your hot liver, and it mixes with bilirubin and cholesterol and goes up into the gallbladder. The gallbladder is naturally cooler—it has a thin lining of fluid around it that keeps it cool. As that hot sludge that came from the liver cools, it forms stones in the gallbladder. Read Liver Rescue for more details on how to heal from gallstones or gallbladder infections.
Science and research won’t discover what’s in the sludge—that it’s full of toxic heavy metals, chemicals and other poisons—for another 200 years or so. If an analysis was done on the sludge in gallbladders, it would take so much time and money and energy to sort out the different chemicals. And all the chemical companies would be held responsible—there would be major class action lawsuits about how all these poisons are getting into our bodies and causing health problems.
Many people think they’re eating healthy foods and they’re not eating processed foods and junk food, but they’re still usually on a diet which is hard for the liver. If you’re eating high protein or high fat (which almost everyone is), you’re bogging down the liver and helping pathogens to hide and grow inside the body. Whether your diet is Mediterranean or vegan or paleo or something else, and whether the fats are plant-based or from animal products, almost everyone is eating too much fat for the liver to handle.
A lot of people will begin a new diet and find that it helps them, so then they believe the new diet is the right way to eat. But the thing is most diets are somewhat helpful because they get people off the garbage—the processed foods and doughnuts and fried foods and so on. Most diets have people eating more clean foods and more whole foods. But down the road these diets aren’t going to clear people’s health conditions. The diets tend to deemphasize fruits and include too much fat, which will burden the liver and affect people’s health. Almost everyone needs to lower their fat intake and eat more fruits, leafy greens, and vegetables. Thankfully, there are so many ways you can support your liver and your body so that you can alleviate symptoms and conditions.
Behind Weight Gain
Weight gain also comes down to the liver. In truth, it means your liver is sluggish. I have a whole chapter on mystery weight gain and another chapter on sluggish liver in Liver Rescue. While two other factors, the thyroid and the adrenals, can often be involved, weight gain is really about what your liver is up against.
The Liver Troublemakers I list in Liver Rescue and mentioned earlier are what weaken the liver. There are pathogens like viruses (including undiscovered viruses) inside the liver. Then when we’re under stress it means adrenaline pumps through our bodies, and our liver has to absorb that too. Then there are the toxins we’ve inherited and that we take in through daily life. Add a high fat and high protein diet on top of that, which greatly burdens the liver, and you’re on your way to pre-fatty liver or eventually fatty liver and a sluggish, weakened liver. Ideally, the liver would be strong and uncompromised enough to process fats, toxins, and hormones with ease, neutralizing and getting rid of the toxins altogether while only holding on to high-quality fats and hormones that could be useful to your body later. The reality is that for most people, the liver simply has too much to do and the liver can’t process fat as it’s meant to, so fat cells begin to collect in the liver at a more rapid rate.
The liver becomes so congested internally that fat builds around the outside of it, with pre-fatty and then fatty liver developing. Fat cells then begin to accumulate in the intestinal tract, and eventually, the heart and arteries get saturated. Weight starts to cling on around the waist. In one way or another, weight gain is the result of a liver that’s been pushed over the edge. Sometimes the liver gets pushed too far and then it’s not for six months or even a year before the person starts to rapidly gain weight. But with time, as the diet is cleaned up and these Liver Troublemakers are released and removed, the liver will start to heal and the weight will come off.
There’s so much misinformation out there and even harmful health trends everywhere you look. It’s vital that you have these truths in your hands so you can take proper care of yourself and your loved ones.

* Lower your fat intake. Remember, whether you’re eating plant-based fats or animal-based fats, it’s all bogging down your liver.
