Passersby at the supermarket usually ignore the humble papaya. Little do they know that by avoiding this fruit, they’re missing out on a piece of their salvation. If you’re struggling with any kind of stomach or intestinal disorder, papayas cannot be beat. They can reverse colitis, Crohn’s, IBS, ulcers, diverticulitis, gastritis, gastric spasms, liver disease, and pancreatitis. They also kill off H. pylori, C. difficile, and E. coli, plus rid the gut of other unfriendly bacteria and parasites, including worms. Papaya is an ideal food if you’re dealing with SIBO.
Papaya is the number-one fruit for digestibility. Each papaya contains more than 500 undiscovered powerful digestive enzymes that support the pancreas, aid digestion, and mend the walls of the intestinal tract, reducing inflammation and preventing scar tissue from forming there. Papaya’s amino acids and enzymes combined create undiscovered subcompound phytochemicals that repel viruses. Papaya also contains potent and as yet undiscovered coenzymes that enhance the alkalinity inside the intestinal tract.
If you need help relieving constipation, papaya is for you. If you suffer from stomach- aches or an inflamed intestinal lining, papaya will be your ally in healing the irritated nerve endings that contribute to these ailments. Whenever someone has gone through a period of not eating, whether from fasting, anorexia, or grave illness, blended papaya is like magic for the refeeding process, because it offers ample calories, optimal nutrition, and digests so favorably.
Papaya is also a miracle worker for the skin. This fruit has anti-wrinkle, fountain-of-youth powers due to its high content of vitamins, minerals, and most important, caratenoids. Not only can it help your skin glow again, it can also clear up eczema, psoriasis, and acne.

EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Papaya can quickly lift you or a loved one out of grouchiness. Keep it on hand to share when feelings of crankiness, crabbiness, or impatience creep in. Papaya breathes light into everyone who consumes it, casting out negativity and darkness, purging old judgment, resentment, and stored-up frustration.
SPIRITUAL LESSON
The papaya tree is often skinny and frail, yet each holds a large crop of one of the heaviest fruits there is. This will and determination to overcome physics and balance no matter what is almost supernatural. It teaches us that we can overcome our seeming weaknesses—when we are working in service to a noble cause. It’s not what we look like on the outside that counts for anything; the true self that’s inside each of us determines what we can really accomplish.
Hidden inside each papaya are medicinal truths. When we eat them, our bodies immediately identify these elements and put them to use, redesigning us physically so that we can heal and become our strongest selves. Papaya trees and their fruit want us to understand that there are no limitations to healing, growth, and becoming. Disease and physical challenges cannot hold us back; we can transform situations that seem, at first, impossible.
TIPS
* For constipation relief, eat half a papaya daily.
* Look for the Mexican and Central American papaya variety known as Maradol. These medium-to-large papayas are preferable to Hawaiian varieties, which have suffered GMO contamination. (If you’re growing papayas at home in Hawaii, that’s a different story. Just be sure to look after your trees with care to avoid GMO influence.)
* If you like spice, eat a few papaya seeds along with the fruit. Eating a small portion of papaya seeds per week can be beneficial for eliminating parasites. For the ultimate in gut-health repair, drink a tonic of papaya blended with celery juice.
PAPAYA SMOOTHIE BOWL
These papaya smoothie bowls are almost too pretty to eat. Don’t let that stop you, though. Papaya and raspberry were made for each other, and the addition of banana, mango, and mint takes this treat over the top. Have fun creating your own designs and customizing this recipe however you want. The options are endless.
6 cups cubed papaya
4 dates, pitted
2 cups raspberries, divided

Grapes should not be misunderstood as being too high in carbs, sugar, or calories to be good for us. It’s just the opposite. Like bananas, grapes are a first-rate fruit that promotes wellness of the highest level. And grapes are less sweet than we think; they are more defined by tartness, which is a key medicinal quality. That sourness indicates the presence of phytochemicals critical to kidney function. If you’ve ever heard that you have elevated creatinine levels, this means your kidneys have become compromised in their ability to remove and excrete waste products from the bloodstream. Grapes are the ultimate kidney tonic—their phytochemicals bind onto waste that the kidneys have trouble filtering.
Many people are also concerned about liver health. Like cherries, grapes are an amazing liver-cleansing food. Their phytochemicals are able to dislodge debris, processed food, and by-products that can clog up lobules in the liver. And for those looking for digestive benefits, grape skins hold powerful micronutrients that expel parasites, mold, and other unproductive fungus from the intestinal tract. Further, antioxidants such as malvidin and other anthocyanins (which explain grapes’ blue, black, dark red, and purple shades) give grapes the power to help fight and prevent most types of cancer. Grapes are an amazing food to fight the Unforgiving Four: they expel radiation from the body; their amino acids such as histidine, methionine, and cysteine work together with their anthocyanins to become a magnet that draws DDT and toxic heavy metals out of the liver, kidneys, spleen, and other organs; plus they’re a potent antiviral for autoimmune disease, which is caused by the viral explosion.
Finally, grapes are an outstanding energy food. They offer a critical boost, whether you’re an athlete, constantly on the go, or you’re a thinker—that is, engaging your brain all day with cognitive tasks (and multitasking), trying to excel at a given project, or in need of fuel to come up with your next big idea.
CONDITIONS
If you have any of the following conditions, try bringing grapes into your life:
Bacterial gastroenteritis, mold exposure, macular degeneration, hypertension, hypertension-related kidney disease, creatinine issues with the kidneys, kidney stones, gallstones, hypoglycemia, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), autism, breast cancer, diabetes, metastatic brain tumors, sepsis, pancreatic cancer, endometriosis, bronchitis, E. coli infection, mystery infertility, fatty liver, hepatitis C, nodules, depression, colon cancer, edema, anemia, sleep disorders, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), multiple sclerosis (MS), neurological disorders, autonomic neuropathy, hemorrhoids, herpes simplex 1 (HSV-1), herpes simplex 2 (HSV-2), hepatitis C, hepatitis B, H. pylori infection, fibroids, common colds, vertigo, low reproductive system battery, all autoimmune diseases and disorders, bacterial infections
SYMPTOMS
If you have any of the following symptoms, try bringing grapes into your life:
Food allergies, palm sweats, emotional eating, dizziness, nausea, Bell’s palsy, shortness of breath, hearing loss, tremors, body odor, chest pain, premenstrual syndrome (PMS) symptoms, confusion, brain fog, cough, backache, inflammation, myelin nerve damage, scar tissue in the liver, blood toxicity, fatigue, brain lesions, hot flashes, hair loss, congestion, brittle nails, blurry eyes, ringing or buzzing in the ears, food allergies, food sensitivities, sensations of humming or vibration in the body
EMOTIONAL SUPPORT
Grapes help when you’re feeling emotionally broken, lifting your spirits and encouraging a jovial, lighthearted outlook on life. They can prevent you from becoming wounded if you’re ever falsely accused of a misdeed and promote healing when you feel excluded in social situations. If you ever feel disappointed that you weren’t chosen for a certain project or job, go out and buy some grapes—they can help you forge ahead and create new opportunities. And if you’re someone who’s reluctant about change, passing up opportunities and later regretting it, embrace grapes in your diet and feel the transformation as you’re able to be braver and take advantage of the special moments life presents. Finally, offer grapes to friends and family members who seem aloof, adrift, or complacent; over time, this fruit can help alter their direction and improve their behavior.
SPIRITUAL LESSON
When you feel isolated—living your life with little interaction or coping with shyness and yet yearning for a sense of belonging with a group that accepts you—make grapes a part of your life. Remember, grapes are bunched together. As each cluster grows on the vine, the little globes stay close to each other, connecting on both a physical and metaphysical level. Each grape adjusts to fit perfectly into place with those around it. Focus on this wonder when you select and eat grapes. It will create a sacred intention, prepare you consciously and subconsciously to find your people, and point you toward your true home.
TIPS
• We tend to overlook raisins. Don’t let their humble status fool you. Raisins are more powerful for your health than goji berries!
• Try this recipe for fresh grape jelly: In the food processor, combine Concord grapes, raw honey to taste, and a squeeze of lemon as preservative. The sugar from the honey extracts healing phytochemicals from the tart, medicinal skin of the grapes, making these nutrients bioavailable and delivering them deep into your vital organs.
• When preparing organic grapes to eat, simply give them a gentle rinse. The residue on organic grapes is actually beneficial, because it’s filled with the elevated biotics we looked at in the “Adaptation” chapter.
GRAPE SLUSHY
Easy to make and incredibly delicious, this ice-cold slushy is the perfect way to make use of grapes and coconut water when you have them. You’ll want to come back to this recipe over and over again.
4 cups frozen* grapes
3 cups coconut water
Blend the frozen grapes and the coconut water in a blender until well combined. Serve and enjoy.
*Fresh grapes may be used in place of frozen if you don’t want an icy drink. Reduce the coconut water to 2 cups.

This smoothie is not only delicious, it's also perfectly designed to include five key ingredients that work together in synergy to pull heavy metals like mercury, lead, aluminum, nickel, copper, and cadmium out of your organs where they accumulate.
Toxic heavy metals are virtually everywhere, and are present in things we come in contact with every day, such as aluminum cans and aluminum foil, batteries, metal cookware, old paint, and even the foods we eat. For instance, pesticides and herbicides (which are hard to completely avoid even on a strict organic diet), are a common source of heavy metals. As a result, most of us are carrying around heavy metals that have been with us for almost our whole lives and which have burrowed deep inside our tissues.
Unfortunately, it is these “old” metals, the ones that have been lurking in our system for prolonged periods of time, that pose the greatest threat. For example, over time toxic heavy metals can oxidize, causing damage to surrounding tissue and promoting inflammation. They literally poison our bodies, and can inflict damage on virtually every system and organ, including our brain, liver, digestive system, and other parts of our nervous system. Toxic heavy metals put an immense burden on our immune system, leaving us vulnerable to a variety of illnesses.
While toxins of every kind are harmful, heavy metals pose a unique threat. Not only are they damaging in their own right, they are also a form of neurotoxin (a poison that disrupts nerve function and confuses your immune system). Heavy metal neurotoxins can inflame and irritate our central nervous system (especially our brain), causing multiple symptoms such as memory loss, brain fog, fatigue, and depression. Toxic heavy metals can also promote inflammation in the digestive tract, releasing poisons into our gut as well. As if this isn’t bad enough, heavy metals also serve as a source of food for viruses, bacteria, parasites, and other pathogens in our body.
For example, heavy metals can serve as a feeding ground for Streptococcus A or B, E. coli, C. difficile, H. pylori, and yeast cells. This can create an overgrowth of multiple bacteria in our gut, resulting in a condition known as SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), which is characterized by bloating, abdominal pain, diarrhea, constipation (or both), and can lead to nutrient deficiencies. Additionally, when viruses such as Epstein-Barr and shingles feed off toxic heavy metals, this can produce symptoms such as tingling, numbness, fatigue, anxiety, heart palpitations, ringing in the ears, dizziness and vertigo, as well as neck pain, knee pain, foot pain, pain in the back of the head, and a variety of other aches and pains that are often attributed to other causes.
It's virtually impossible not to take in a certain amount of these toxic heavy metals in our modern era, so it's vitally important to our health that we get them out before they can wreak further havoc on our health. Thankfully, it's relatively simple to remove them from our organs if we consume the right foods to do so. Adding the following all-star team of foods to your diet and being diligent in your efforts to consume them will go a long way toward ridding your body of heavy metals:
Spirulina: This edible blue-green algae draws out heavy metals from your brain, central nervous system, and liver, and soaks up heavy metals extracted by barley grass juice extract powder. Take 2 teaspoons mixed in water, coconut water, or juice.
Barley grass juice powder: prepares the mercury for complete absorption by the spirulina. This nutritive grass has the ability to draw heavy metals out of your spleen, intestinal tract, pancreas, thyroid, and reproductive system. Drink 1-2 teaspoons mixed into coconut water or juice.
Cilantro: Goes deep into hard-to-reach places, extracting metals from yesteryear (so it’s great for that mercury inheritance you’re carrying around!). Blend one cup in a smoothie or juice, or add to salad or guacamole.
Wild blueberries: Draw heavy metals out of your brain tissue, healing and repairing any gaps created by oxidation when the heavy metals are removed. It is important to use wild blueberries, as they possess unique phytonutrients with special detoxifying capabilities. The potent antioxidants in wild blueberries help reverse any oxidative damage left behind by the heavy metal removal. This is especially important for your brain tissue—in fact, wild blueberries are the most powerful food for halting or in some cases reversing Alzheimer’s and dementia. Eat at least one cup daily. Note: while cultivated blueberries are nutritious, they lack the metal-drawing ability of the wild blueberries. Wild blueberries can be found in the freezer section of most supermarkets.
Atlantic dulse: In addition to mercury, this edible seaweed binds to lead, aluminum, copper, cadmium, and nickel. Unlike other seaweeds, Atlantic dulse is a powerful force for removing mercury on its own. Atlantic dulse goes into deep, hidden places of the digestive tract and gut, seeking out mercury, binding to it, and never releasing it until it leaves the body. Eat two tablespoons of flakes daily, or an equal amount of strips if it’s in whole-leaf form. Note: As it comes from the ocean, if you are concerned about the dulse itself having mercury, be aware that Atlantic sea dulse will not release any mercury it might possess into the body. It holds on to the mercury as it works its way through, and even grabs onto other metals along the way and drives them out as well. Atlantic dulse is a critical part of the team because it can hang out near the finish line (i.e., our colon), waiting for the other foods that have been grabbing on to heavy metals along the way. It serves as emergency backup, helping ensure that all the heavy metals that made it as far as the colon actually leave the body.
Today's smoothie recipe gives you a simple and tasty way to get all of these five foods into your daily diet in just one go. Drink this smoothie daily for optimal benefits.
