Cucumber Juice

Fresh cucumber juice is the best rejuvenation tonic in the world. Cucumber juice is a highly alkalizing and hydrating drink that is rich in nutrients such as vitamins A, C, K, magnesium, silicon, and potassium. It has the ability to cleanse and detox the entire body as well as help to alleviate digestive problems such as gastritis, acidity, heartburn, indigestion, and ulcers. It is also an ideal way to properly hydrate the body since it contains beneficial electrolytes that have the ability to bring nutrients and hydration deep into the cells and tissues making it far more effective than water alone.

Cucumber juice is also one of the best natural diuretics around, aiding in the excretion of waste through the kidneys and helping to dissolve uric acid accumulations such as kidney and bladder stones. It has the ability to help reduce edema, bloating and swelling in the body. It also has wonderful anti-inflammatory benefits which can significantly benefit autoimmune and neurological disorders such as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, Migraines, Anxiety, Depression, Shingles, Eczema, Psoriasis, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Multiple Sclerosis, & Lupus.

Cucumber juice is also an excellent remedy for bringing down a fever in children and the convalescent. Twelve to twenty ounces of fresh cucumber juice on an empty stomach is recommended daily to help hydrate and recover the body.

How do I make cucumber juice?

Ingredients:

  • 2 large cucumbers (organic if possible*)

Directions:

Wash the cucumbers and cut as needed. Run the cucumbers through your juicer and drink immediately for best results. If you do not have a juicer, you can cut the cucumbers, blend them until smooth, and then strain the liquid through a fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth or nut milk bag so you end up with just the juice to drink.

For best results, drink on an empty stomach.

*Please see the next question on whether the cucumbers should be organic or not.

Cucumber Juice FAQ

Do my cucumbers need to be organic?

It’s best to use organic cucumbers if possible. If you are using conventional cucumbers, it’s important to scrub them very well. You can use a natural and unscented dishwashing detergent to remove as much of the wax and chemicals on the skin as possible. Even organic cucumbers often have wax on the outside so you may wish to scrub your organic cucumbers too.

How much cucumber juice should I drink?

Twelve to twenty ounces (or more) of cucumber juice per day is ideal. It depends on what kind of juicer you have and the size of your cucumbers, but generally speaking, two large cucumbers will yield around sixteen ounces of juice.

When is the best time to drink cucumber juice?

Cucumber juice is best consumed alone, about twenty to thirty minutes away from other foods and drinks. Some people like to have it twenty to thirty minutes after their straight celery juice in the morning. Others like to have it a half hour before their dinner. Some people enjoy their cucumber juice an hour before bed. Each of these times is wonderful provided they are away from other foods and drinks.

Which juicer do you recommend?

The Omega Juicer is great depending on your budget, but any juicer will work.

Can I just blend the cucumber juice and leave the pulp (fiber) in?

Blended cucumber with the pulp in is very healthy, but it’s the juice without the fiber that provides the greatest therapeutic healing benefits so it’s important to remove the pulp.

If you don’t have a juicer, you can still blend your cucumbers and then strain them through a fine mesh strainer, cheesecloth or nut milk bag so you end up with just the juice to drink.

Can I add apple or celery or other ingredients to my cucumber juice?

Cucumber juice is most effective when it’s consumed straight, without any other added ingredients. If you like to have different fruits, greens and vegetables in your juices, have those in another juice at another time of day away from your cucumber juice.

What if I can’t stand the taste of straight cucumber juice?

If you find the taste of straight cucumber juice too strong, you can juice one apple with the cucumber.

This is a great option as you get adjusted to the flavor.

As you get used to it, keep increasing the ratio of cucumber; the greatest benefits come when cucumber juice is consumed on its own.

Do I need to peel the cucumbers?

No, there are many nutrients in the skin of cucumbers. However, if you are buying conventional cucumbers it’s important to scrub them very well. You can do the same if the cucumbers are organic but look like they have wax on the outside of them, which they commonly do.

Can I make cucumber juice ahead of time?

It’s best to drink cucumber juice immediately after juicing.

But if you don’t have options other wise, do not let it go past one day (24 hours).

If using this option, make sure to seal it in a mason jar with a lid and store in the fridge.

Can I freeze cucumber juice and make batches ahead of time?

If you cannot drink your cucumber juice after making it, and making ahead and freezing is your only option, then freezing it is okay. But this is a last resort, and should not be relied on. Fresh is always best. Cucumber juice’s healing properties will decrease when freezing it.

Can I just eat cucumber instead of juicing it?

The reason for juicing the cucumber versus just eating it is because juicing and removing the pulp (fiber) is the best way to get the powerful healing benefits, especially for anyone with chronic illness.

Eating cucumber itself is helpful and should be part of your diet, but there are even more benefits when you juice it.

I don’t like cucumber. Can I juice something else?

Even if you don’t like the taste of cucumbers, you may find the mellow, lightly sweet taste of cucumber juice to be quite palatable. However, straight celery juice is a good alternative to cucumber juice. Each juice has different healing properties and characteristics, but both are incredibly beneficial.

Is cucumber juice okay to consume while pregnant or breastfeeding?

Yes, cucumber juice is safe and healthy to consume while pregnant or breastfeeding.

Can I add ice to my cucumber juice?

It’s best not to add ice, ice will dilute the healing properties of the cucumber juice.

Do I need to drink both straight celery juice and straight cucumber juice every day?

Drinking both juices every day can be very beneficial and healing and many people enjoy having both. Each juice has unique healing properties that are incredibly helpful. However, you don’t have to drink both. It’s a personal decision.

If you are going to start with one juice, you can start with straight celery juice and then consider adding in straight cucumber juice as and when you wish. If celery juice feels too strong for you, you can instead start with straight cucumber juice and then start adding in straight celery juice in time.

Should I drink cucumber juice before or after my celery juice?

It is best to drink your celery juice on an empty stomach in the morning (or 15 to 30 minutes after lemon water). You can then drink your cucumber juice 15 to 30 minutes after your celery juice or later in the day between other foods and drinks.

Is cucumber juice helpful for a fever?

Yes, it’s very helpful to drink straight cucumber juice when you or a family member have a fever. Cucumber juice is very cooling to the body’s glands and organs, which can help bring down a fever.
